700,000 Dead

We’ve left behind the numbers killed in the 1918 epidemic (675K), thus making the Trump-Virus the deadliest in US history in spite of having a free, widely distributed, and very effective vaccine.

Well-played Possum Hollar. Your utter selfishness and disdain for your families, friends and neighbors has been exceptional.

This is so sad, so tragic.
    No words.

    Self destructive anti-vaxxers.
May of then are my Christian brethren.

Pastor John Pavlovitz is right when he says that he cares more for conservative Christians than conservative Christians seem to.

Not usually a fan of the New York Times, but the link above (thanks TG) has some great graphics. We didn’t need to be here, but some folks just will not listen to qualified medical advise. I found this earlier today…

And this one by Chris Hayes…

The US in 1920 had a population of 110-million—about one-third of today’s population.

While 700-thousand dead of COVID is tragic, and more tragic still due to the Effing-up of the government response by The Former Guy, in order to reach a comparison to the US deaths due to the 1920 Flu, we would need about 1.9-million COVID deaths.

And I hope we never come near that figure.

Are you saying that the toll, adjusted for inflation, would be an effective rate of 260K?
Well, now I could claim that the real reason the (mostly) righties are against pretty much any preventative measures against COVID is so they’ll have a better argument against any kind of birth control. Gotta bring those numbers back up, ya know. It’s the Capitalism/Consumerism mind set applied in an absurd and tragic manner.

To the degree that birth control is likely to be a Culture War target, yes. I don’t think that Wingnuttia is capable of two-steps ahead strategy, but if they are, well, this would be it.

The real target though is the Griswold decision. Wingnuts are not specifically after birth control (the theocrats are, of course), but they are after privacy.

Funny how none of the televangicals that are fighting mask and vaccine mandates are taking the time to remind their followers that suicide is a sin. Oh, and then there’s that whole sanctity of life thing.

I want to say something snide and cruel about the situation, like “turn the unvaccinated away at the front door to the hospital,” or “sometimes I wish this was an Ebola pandemic and we were getting rid of the crazy white trash for good,” but my real concern is that this pandemic will pass but the fifty or so million anti-American, illiterate, crazy white trash will still be here and we’re still going to have to deal with them daily – death threats to anyone who contradicts their crazy, having the media treat the violent crazy trash like “they have a right to be heard,” and “racism is just another opinion that must be respected.”
