And Now, Some Good News From Texas

(Axios)

If you cannot bring the voter to the registrar, then bring registration to the voters!

Axios’ email thingie (and all the usual caveats about formatting):

First look: Beto launches register-from-home tool

Beto O’Rourke today launches a voter registration tool allowing eligible Texans to register at home with volunteers deployed on request, Axios’ Stef Kight reports.

  • Why it matters: The announcement comes two days after the Republican-controlled Texas legislature passed a bill that voting-rights activists say will make it more difficult for some Texans to vote.

The program is being launched in 10 counties by Powered by People, which O’Rourke founded. Other counties will be added.

This is a great idea, and I hope other states where Republicans are actively sabotaging voter registration take note. Beto is a natural leader, instead of being dejected that the Texas Lege (where bad policy is born) legalized voter suppression, he is quickly getting organized to overcome it.

This is how Stacey Abrams handled things in GA. Secretary of State Kemp (while also running for governor) did everything barely legal to keep her from getting elected governor, but she came back with some grass roots ass kicking and now GA has 2 Democratic Senators. And now GA, too, has passed some serious bullshit voting restrictions and election laws. Abrams is still in GA and still activating her squads. I’m hoping to see some similar action in the near future.
