We were surprised/not surprised to read that Republicans are up in arm that the January 6 Commission is requesting the phone records from pretty much all the carriers (emphasis mine):
Kevin McCarthy warns GOP majority ‘will not forget’ if companies turn over phone records to Jan. 6 committee
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy warned “a Republican majority will not forget” telecommunications companies that turn over phone records to the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
More than 30 companies including Apple, AT&T and Verizon, received a request for phone records from congressional investigators Monday.
“If these companies comply with the Democrat order to turn over private information, they are in violation of federal law and subject to losing their ability to operate in the United States,” McCarthy said in a statement Tuesday. “If companies still choose to violate federal law, a Republican majority will not forget and will stand with Americans to hold them fully accountable under the law.”
McCarthy did not specify which federal law.
We’re only guessing that complying with Congress is not breaking any law, but they probably will use HIPPA as per Rep. 3-Names likes to do… and speaking of her:
Marjorie Taylor Greene Threatens Telecoms Over 1/6 Committee Request: ‘If They Go Along With This, They Will Be Shut Down’
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show Tuesday night, and threatened telecommunications companies with extinction if they cooperate with requests or subpoenas from the congressional committee investigating the January 6th Capitol insurrection…
…Neither Greene nor Carlson cited any law that gives Congress the authority to shut down companies because they complied with Congress.
Anyway, all of this leads to speculation that there is probably some fire behind this smoke screen. Imagine the texts that could be swept up with insider trading, sexting, or underaged mistresses (Hi Matt!), let alone to Hair Füror or even to the insurrectionists themselves.
“I’ll shut down the telcom companies” she tweets from her phone connected to [checks notes] a telcom company.
This new breed of yung gunz of the GQP isn’t very bright, is it?
(yah yah, I know it was on fucker’s show not a tweet, but you know how much of his audience gets it’s nooz and fuckers show? telcom companies )

But her emails… and her text messages; a news article from 2016 (about a hundred years ago) for a little additional perspective:

These fools need to watch Forensic Files every once in a while. They might even learn how law & order actually works in real life in these United States.

The solution here is to never allow another Republican majority.

Government shutting down private companies over politics sounds like evil SOCIALISM or ISLAMIC TERRORISM to me. Was Congresswoman 3-Names schooled at a madrassa or in the People’s Republic of China, or both?

Way back in the day during the whole Elian Gonzalez episode I gat in an argument with a RWNJ over his support for keeping Elian here and managed to actually shut him up for a bit by saying “So you’re in favor of taking children from their parents over their parent’s political beliefs?”

Over 700,000 persons employed in telecommunications in the US, I be guessin’ that puts telecoms in the sacred and saintly ‘job creator’ classification. So yeah, GQP, go for it – shut ’em down.
