Sweet, sweet relief
Too little, way too late, Possum Hollar:
“Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) said he regrets signing a bill into law that bans state and local government authorities from implementing mask mandates amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.”
“Hutchinson said now that cases are increasing in Arkansas, he wishes the ban ‘had not become law.’”
Gee, if only someone had told him.
UPDATE 1: You gotta dance with them whut brung you:
As they become aware that killing off their base isn’t a winning strategy.

“Who could have possibly predicted that this legislation would end up killing my constituents?” Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R-Grim Reaper) did not say.

Meh, not incompetent so much a a craven coward.
If he’d vetoed the bill, the lege would have overridden it in a heartbeat and then the MAGA mob would start throwing feces amd howling for his head too.
You know how the saying goes “History is repeated, first as tragedy, then as farce” ?
Well we’re in the repeat of the French Terror, only instead of Robespierre and the sans-culottes, we have…Trump and the MAGAtariat. (motto:The Aristocrats!)
So now we have roughly half the states in our country that are a kakicoulorostocracy (or “incompetent rule by shitty clowns” )

We’ve got an incredibly strong MAGA majority in the Ledge (when Jason Rapert looks like a moderate in comparison, you got problems), who succeeded in getting a lot of laws passed that ordinarily wouldn’t have a chance in hell, most of them from out-of-state bill mills. The Ledge overrode Hutchinson’s veto (only a simple majority needed) on the Arkansas Sovereignty Law (we don’t have to listen to them thar dang feds who wanna take our guns), and there were seven bills he let pass into law without signing them. The Ledge also clipped his wings on emergency powers and mask mandates because, dagnabbit, he ain’t Trumpy enough, and we want freedom to spread disease! I have friends who are seriously considering leaving the state because of all this crap. I can’t afford to.

This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who.

The law of unintended consequences, often cited but rarely defined, is that actions of people—and especially of government—always have effects that are unanticipated or unintended. Economists and other social scientists have heeded its power for centuries; for just as long, politicians and popular opinion have largely ignored it.
And yet some people still put squirrels down their pants for the purpose of gambling.

I am not sure gambling is the reason for putting the squirrel down their pants, but I am not going to engage in kink-shaming.

Not so sure this was an ‘unintended consequence’ so much as a ‘consequence of delusional thinking’: the delusion that somehow this pandemic isn’t real, and that viruses are politically motivated.

I think for Arkansas they use biblical language. You Reap What You Sow. It is not good news.

Does anybody ever directly ask these “patriots” what their source of information is when they interrupt proceedings with their unhinged rants?
