Meanwhile, In Possum Hollar…

The Gret Stet of Missouri is in the news and not for the latest “entertainment” from Branson’s legendarily sturdy Rockettes kicking up a storm:

St. Louis County health director says he was called racist slurs during mask order meeting

But you know, it’s not like the bodies are stacking up or anything… Oh, wait:

The CoxHealth health system said it’s expanding morgue capacity due to an increase in COVID-19 related deaths. “We’ve actually brought in a portable piece of technology that allows bodies to be cooled and placed outside the morgue. We have had to expand that because the mortality has gone up so much lately,” CoxHealth President and CEO Steve Edwards said during a news briefing in Springfield-Greene County Tuesday.

I’m sure the governor is on it, right?

I’m sure that not everyone in the Show-Me State is deranged. Surely some are proud role models for their fellow… what’s that, you say?

Some people in Missouri are getting vaccinated in secret to avoid backlash from loved ones, doctor says

(CNN)The Covid-19 vaccine has become so polarizing that some people in Missouri are getting inoculated in secret for fear of backlash from their friends and family who oppose vaccination, a doctor told CNN on Wednesday.

“They’ve had some experience that’s sort of changed their mind from the viewpoint of those in their family, those in their friendship circles or their work circles. And they came to their own decision that they wanted to get a vaccine,” said Dr. Priscilla Frase, a hospitalist and chief medical information officer at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, Missouri.

“They did their own research on it, and they talked to people and made the decisions themselves,” Frase told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “But even though they were able to make that decision themselves, they didn’t want to have to deal with the peer pressure or the outbursts from other people about them … ‘giving in to everything.'”

In a hospital produced video, Frase said one pharmacist at her hospital told her “they’ve had several people come in to get vaccinated who have tried to sort of disguise their appearance and even went so far as to say, ‘please, please, please don’t let anybody know that I got this vaccine.'”

That quote from earlier in the week comes to mind, that we are now a country of vaccinated and infected people. Way back when Brother Charlie Pierce said that the Republicans had a Prion disease that was spreading, who knew how accurate he was? These people are nuts, but few more so that the snake-handlers of Possum Hollar, Missouri.

Wearing a mask in public is an act of personal hygiene. Thank god they don’t feel the same way about toilet paper.

What surge is this? 3rd? 4th? We have time for two or three more before the midterms. I don’t personally know any liberals who have contracted the disease. All of them are now vaccinated. I personally knew several conservatives who have died from the disease. The latest one being a loud and proud anti-vaxxer. All diehard republicans. I have a suspicion that the November 22 elections are going to be very interesting.

    • Read that scary-ass CDC leak in Wapo today…You may not know liberals who contracted the disease, hell THEY may not know they contracted the disease, but asymptomactic breakthrough infections in vaccinated folks appear to shead about as much virus as symptomatic unvaxxed plague rats. Delta also produces like 1000 times the virus in the body, and that makes it insanely contagious.

Thanks Modi! India’s own Trump helped bring this about, opening India up way too soon and not vaccinating people.

I’m hoping that the US is going to see the kind of spike trajectory that appears to have happened in India and seems to be happening in England, but Dog only knows what fucking variant the GQP Reavers in the US are brewing up.

The vaccine won’t prevent you from catching the Darwin variant (aka Delta variant), but it will keep you from getting so sick that you have to be hospitalized, or worse spending your dying days in the expensive care unit. I’ve been vaccinated for nearly four months now and I still wear a mask when shopping (and other indoor activity). My sister-in-law’s kids are antivaxxers, and they’ve never had their own children vaccinated for anything. She had to get vaccinated in secret too, for fear of being rejected by her kids and family. The recent news concerning the Darwin variant is that it’s as infectious as chickenpox and you can catch it by walking through a store where an infected person was a few minutes before, i.e. no direct contact is required. This should be a game changer, but the sane and sensible world always underestimates the number of stupid people in circulation…

Here in the red state of Georgduh- in a suburb of Atlanta- nearly every one of our local hospitals is at 90% and above capacity- inpatient beds and ICU beds. My neighbor’s husband was in an accident last night and cannot be transferred to the hospital near her home due to covid. Seriously- it’s going to be just like last summer only worse because all of these hospitalizations occurring now were utterly preventable. Be careful out there. Specially if you are living with these covidiots because a covid overwhelmed hospital can’t take care of regular patients.

“A portable piece of technology”. They had to hire a refrigerated truck to keep up with the increasing number of bodies.
