Jan. 6 Commission Gets Another Republican

(H/T: Twitter)

Nancy Smash has invited Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R- IL) to join the Insurrection Commission investigating the January 6 Stupid Coup.

And not surprisingly, he accepted. Kinzinger probably figures that Hair Füror is going to nuke him in 2022 anyway, so why the Hell not take a stand? Seriously, what’s he got to lose when already he has a YUGE orange bullseye on his back, amirite?

“Let me be clear, I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution — and while this is not the position I expected to be in or sought out, when duty calls, I will always answer,” Kinzinger said in a statement.

“I will work diligently to ensure we get to the truth and hold those responsible for the attack fully accountable,” Kinzinger continued. “This moment requires a serious, clear-eyed, non-partisan approach. We are duty-bound to conduct a full investigation on the worst attack on the Capitol since 1814 and to make sure it can never happen again.”

And if you think Kinzinger will not be targeted, well, we note Axios’ latest poll about approval rating among GOP voters of several Republicans, including Liz Cheney:

Donald Trump Jr.: +55
Gov. Ron DeSantis: +54
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy: +24
Rep. Matt Gaetz: +17
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: +8
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell: +2
Rep. Liz Cheney: -43

I do not know what the future holds for Kinzinger, but I’m guessing he still has some political ambitions and in the aftermath he might be a local hero, or even a national one. Look to see what his fundraising looks like: the House odds are that he’s going to get a lot of small donations, many out of state, and of course some/most from Democrats as he is an apostate to Possum Hollar.

I have absolutely no illusions about the politics of Kinzinger and Cheney (just look at their pro-TFG voting records), but at least they’re professing to put country over party (but you can bet a gigantizillion quatloos I’ll be keeping an eye on their behavior when the commission gets going). It effectively cuts the legs out from under the Trumplicans’ “partisan witch hunt” argument, and anyone with half a brain knows that their “RINO” accusations hold about as much water as a fishnet balloon. Qevin McQarthy and the Trumplicans played themselves, and quite effectively, too.

Hopefully JB Pritzker stomps the crap out of him if/when Kinzinger runs for IL gov.
