Midday Palate Cleanser

Meet Gracie the Bark Ranger at Glacier National Park who keeps deer and sheep away from visitors.

In July 2016, Glacier National Park became the first National Park Service unit to use an employee-owned dog to help manage habituated wildlife. In recent years, increasing park visitation has led to an increase in human–wildlife interactions at Glacier and other national parks. The goal of Glacier’s wildlife shepherding program is to keep park visitors and wildlife a safe distance apart.

She is a very good girl.

  1. poor girl blew out her ACL…We had to get one of our dogs TPLO surgery (https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17975835127025817/ ) Hardest part was Cicely wasn’t supposed to run for a month and so had to be on a leash every time she went out. She lived to run around at top speed.

She was one of the dogs we had when we moved into our current house which we describe as a “Very nice, large fenced yard for the dogs that luckily had a house on it for us to live in” and for about a month after we moved in, whenever we let them out she’d race around the yard two or three times at top speed. (which was very fast, she was part Rhodesian Ridgeback, we think.)

🙂 That’s how I describe our house, too. It’s small (924 sq. ft.) but it has a great yard for the doggies-plenty of room for them to run and play with us. 🙂🐕‍🦺

I had some friends in California with 2 black labs, and they bought their house for the dogs. They described it as “a pool with a dog house attached.” The dogs spent the day leaping into the pool, and then running inside to check their doggie bowls. You know, just in case.

      • OMG that’s small! I am working on remodeling a house roughly the same size, to help make it work better for having two dogs.

  2. we just spent a week out in the boiling hells\cape of the southwest, visiting National Parks we had missed, including mesa Verde which made me come down with High Altitude Disease. Also Taliesin West. Park employees and rangers are the absolute best of us. We loves them peeps. Also, Arches is gorgeous.

Replying to yours above this one; we’ve had 3 full size dogs here at the same time before, though they did spend some of their time in the yard. We also had our son from infant to HS graduation, and monthly sleepovers with his friends. That was not so bad, until they got into high school and each brought their computers with them to sleepovers so they could game. Yep, biiig computers. Eventually the guy with the biggest house had all the sleepovers, and we just sent food with our kid. So that’s all to say, I believe you can do it!
