Would-be Senator McCloskey (R – Possum Hollar)

“Noted local criminal Mark McCloskey played host to a barbecue/political rally on Sunday afternoon, drawing tens of admirers to the sweltering parking lot of a closed outlet mall in St. Louis County to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the time he pulled a gun on a crowd of people who otherwise would never have noticed or cared he existed.” — The Riverfront Times

I am in awe! I never got a lede like this past my editor in college; had to take up blogging to achieve the dream…

  2. I am hilariously larfing that they cosplayed as themselves, with fake guns because they aren’t allowed real ones anymore.

Pretty sure that is a real gun, one that was sold to them after surrendering the original. The guy who sold it to him was one of their guests.

      • if so, he was breaking the requirement that he surrender all his guns.

Surrendered and replaced, allegedly. From linked article:
” JeffCo gun store owner Ian McFarland, who recently sold McCloskey a new gun when the latter handed his over to the state after pleading guilty to the crimes he’d committed;”
And he’ll claim he did surrender his guns. “So there. Now get off my lawn. Is too my lawn.” Also allegedly.

I highly recommend clicking the link and reading the entire article. The whole thing is a hoot.
Example: This is the caption of a picture of the pair at their fund-raising barbecue-sauce-selling thingy – “They were at least kind enough to wear their signature outfits, which is good because no one would recognize or care about them otherwise.”

    • Or the part where the gun got the most cheers, and it seemed clear the crowd would really rather vote for the gun if it were on the ballot.

The Zardoz/Idiocracy mashup no one has ever asked for.

I’m glad to see Four Seasons Total Landscaping is doing well enough to open a branch in St. Louis.

Hmm. How much does it cost to rent a closed outlet mall’s parking lot? Sounds like St. Louis is lucky they didn’t pick I-64 instead.
