It’s Good To Be King: Happy Birthday to Mel Brooks

Mr. Brooks is 95 today, and that’s not just encores!

Anyway, if you have the time and inclination, give one of his fine movies a viewing tonight. It’s rare that one man has made such a dent in the comedy world and we should celebrate his birthday.

Meta-synchronicity: Saw Blazing Saddles at the Chinese Theater (very meta, that being where the movie ends) & the very next morning I was in Rock’n’Roll Ralphs on Sunset Blvd., & who was in line, like a regular guy, w/ his lovely wife, Anne Bancroft? Mel Brooks. Told him I’d seen the movie just the night before & thought it was great. He was appreciative,.
