The theocrats are back, baby, and bigger than ever:
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited a South Florida Jewish temple to denounce anti-Semitism and stand with Israel, as the Republican governor cloaked himself in religion Monday while signing a bill into law that would require public schools in his state to set aside at least one minute of silence for children to meditate or pray.
We sincerely doubt that DeSantis is thinking about Buddhists, or Hindus, or even Unitarian Universalists as he signed this.
As various Supreme Court decisions have ruled, it is illegal for public schools to mandate prayer, so expect the lawsuits to start immediately, but given our current SCOTUS, well, nothing is certain.
DeSantis is building his constituency. As we already know he delivers the goods for the theocrats: discriminatory LGBTQ+ legislation, voting restrictions, and now school prayer. Can he manage to squeeze in some anti-woman legislation?
Lord Damp Nut, the failed Florida blogger with the Staten Island tan, might notice a certain betrayal in his midst, because DeSantis is mosdef running in the 2024 Goat Rodeo.
