We Hate To Interrupt Your Saturday…

…as you polish your one-person show of Iphigenia in Tauris, the tensions between Iphigenia and her long lost brother Orestes being somewhat problematical to perform in today’s world, but we would be remiss if we failed to alert you that our pal Burr Deming has posted his legendary links complete with wry commentary (take THAT, Euripides!) at his blog, Fair and Unbalanced.

Ya know, maybe I haven’t been keeping up with current events. Here I thought all these years that Iphigenia was actually sacrificed by Agamemnon, see Iphigenia in Aulis and somehow conflated this with Iphigenia in Tauris, in a full-stop/end of story kind of way, and that’s why Clytemnestra murdered him. See in particular “Agamemnon” by Aeschylus. Now I learn that Artemis may have saved her by substituting a deer on the altar at the last minute, which I guess is how Euripides came up with “Iphigenia in Tauris” as a sequel.

You have so interrupted my Sunday morning, Tengrain. I need to be better read, I guess. Wouldn’t want to betray my ignorance in a less friendly forum!
