The Trump Crime Family couldn’t sell their lease at the start of the Trump-Virus Pandemic, so why not try now?

Former president Donald Trump’s company has again hired a broker to sell the lease to its D.C. hotel, according to two people familiar with the discussions, a second attempt to unload the property after the pandemic thwarted a previous effort.… The hotel, which Trump’s company leases from the General Services Administration, has suffered financially from both the toll COVID has taken on luxury travel and the damage Trump’s brand has endured due to his politics, with many liberal, corporate, and international clients unwilling to book rooms or events at the hotel.

Last we heard the money was not rolling in as foreign dignitaries stopped paying their respect to Hair Füror:

Rooms were running nearly half empty at the hotel the last time the company put it up for sale, according to marketing documents acquired by The Washington Post. Last year revenue at the property fell by 62%, according to Trump’s government disclosure forms.

Instructive quote:

“Why wouldn’t I stay at his hotel blocks from the White House, so I can tell the new president, ‘I love your new hotel!’ Isn’t it rude to come to his city and say, ‘I am staying at your competitor?’”

Odd, that. The mango-hued shitgibbon is out of power (and outta luck what with all sorts of expensive law suits running him to ground) and so bribes from  foreign dignitaries and lobbyists  can be spent elsewhere. Never try to convince me that this hotel was not emoluments central.

  1. The whole fucking thing was an emolument. The GSA lease explicitly specifies that the leaseholder could not keep the lease if he or she took Federal office. They just didn’t enforce that clause for ‘reasons’. His administration was undeniably corrupt from Day 1.

      Even if you spot him “his city” as meaning “the city he lives in” that whole thing about patronizing TFG rather than his competitor just screams corruption.
      I am old enough to remember when Bush blindsided Gore in a debate because Gore’s mother had stock in a company that sold pharmaceuticals for dogs. The claim was that this put Gore in the tank for drug companies. In that case, Bush never divested himself of his straight-up oil stocks and Cheney stayed on the payroll at Halliburton. It’s a precedent that TFG honored with relish.

  5. Also, the terms of Historic Tax Credits typically specify you can’t sell or sub-lease the property for a specified amount of time, once you’ve taken the tax credits.

    On a positive note, the rat insurectionist planners-coordinators and state-level election thieves (think the Michigan Goopers) had a “grand” setting in that big empty lobby-booze dispensary with a 10-story galleria looming over them. Great venue for small-town adulterers and treason pimps.
