Memorial Day: I Learned Something New

When I got to the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Seattle today (where civil war soldiers are buried), I noticed that some of the graves had been tended to and some had flowers and some had flags, which was nice to see, but as I got closer I saw that a lot of them had a shiny copper penny on the stone, and when I got even closer: the Lincoln side was up.

It’s brilliant, really. And a nice bit of symbolism, to boot.
