Texas: Our National Lab for Bad Policy (Part Infinity)

Sweet, sweet relief

Texas House, Senate strike compromise on bill legalizing permitless carry of handguns

Seriously, I cannot imagine ever visiting Texas again, even if somehow SxSW should ever come back to life after the Pandemic.

G’bye, Texas, it was fun, but y’all are too crazy.

From what I’ve read, the Association of Police Chiefs is against it, as well as the rank and file cops.
Mike Mata, the president of the Dallas Police Association, says it’s not a good idea to allow people with no training to handle firearms. “Citizens would not have to demonstrate proficiency with the firearm, or even basic awareness of firearms safety. At least with the license to carry permit, citizens must demonstrate basic knowledge and an awareness of the laws.”

Seems to me that the GQP would want to be on the side of law enforcement, I mean except for the 01/06/21 thing…

  3. My gawd, next thing you know…they’ll be…Arizona!

…which has never had any sort of registration, had legal open carry since, well, forever, I think, and the lege made concealed carry no longer need any sort of permits a while back.

BUT! this state is full of Arizonans not Texans…

It’s not an uncommon sight to see people strapped in the grocery store, Big Brave Men With Tiny Dicks walking around Ready To … something since I cannot remember the last time some BBMWaTD saved everyone during a brazen mid-day armed robbery of a grocery store…

But then I live in a hotbed of Marxist gun-grabbing hippies fairly liberal city, so maybe I’ve missed all the gunbattles in other parts of the state.

I’ll say this, though, this ability to carry their service-animal-revolvers everywhere does seem to cut down on the need to cosplay Meal Team Six in public like the crazies in texas.

Is the “compromise” that they can only shoot themselves in the wiener?

I can’t either. I’ve been there a number of times. It’s a complete wasteland, in every sense of the word.

Big Bend Nat’l Park is really beautiful. Rugged desert with canyons and outcrops. So is the northeastern part of the state, which actually has forested hills. Texas doesn’t deserve those areas.

My experience of the place includes Harlingen (hot as hell in October!), San Antonio (OK), Dallas/Ft. Worth (Meh!), and Midland and Abilene (parched, flat, desert, OMG!).
