Our Failed Political Press ™
Politico/Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) email thingie really stretches to make a BOTH SIDES story with the GQP Civil War ousting apostate Liz Cheney with the Democrats, uh, doing something?
Anyway, here’s the opening paragraphs of both arguments:
FIRST, THE REPUBLICANS: The ongoing civil war over DONALD TRUMPmay effectively end this week if Rep. LIZ CHENEY (R-Wyo.)is ousted from House GOP leadership for her continued criticism of his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. (Scheduling note: That vote is expected for Wednesday morning.)
SECOND, THE DEMOCRATS: It’s no secret that for years, Dems have had skirmishes over ideology, race, age and gender — and the differences between who makes up the party’s base and who ends up getting nominated for office.
Look, I went to Cal and I might not know much, but I can compare and contrast with the best of ’em, and these things are not equivalent. One is about loyalty oaths to Dear Leader and purges/pograms of those found wanting of idealogical purity; the other is a healthy, on-going debate about ideas and diversity in the big tent.
The story, as we keep pointing out is not Liz Cheney’s fate, it is that the Coup Klux Klan has gone completely off the rails. One of our two political parties is completely AWOL and is as if body-snatchers have replaced everyone with pod people inthrall to a carnival barker. And our Failed Political Press ™ is missing the story of our lifetimes by trying to say that it is perfectly normal.
You cannot compare/contrast these things.
