No, Politico, Both Sides Don’t

Our Failed Political Press ™

I read the news today, oh boy.

Politico/Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) email thingie really stretches to make a BOTH SIDES story with the GQP Civil War ousting apostate Liz Cheney with the Democrats, uh, doing something?

Anyway, here’s the opening paragraphs of both arguments:

FIRST, THE REPUBLICANS: The ongoing civil war over DONALD TRUMPmay effectively end this week if Rep. LIZ CHENEY (R-Wyo.)is ousted from House GOP leadership for her continued criticism of his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. (Scheduling note: That vote is expected for Wednesday morning.)

SECOND, THE DEMOCRATS: It’s no secret that for years, Dems have had skirmishes over ideology, race, age and gender — and the differences between who makes up the party’s base and who ends up getting nominated for office.

Look, I went to Cal and I might not know much, but I can compare and contrast with the best of ’em, and these things are not equivalent. One is about loyalty oaths to Dear Leader and purges/pograms of those found wanting of idealogical purity; the other is a healthy, on-going debate about ideas and diversity in the big tent.

The story, as we keep pointing out is not Liz Cheney’s fate, it is that the Coup Klux Klan has gone completely off the rails. One of our two political parties is completely AWOL and is as if body-snatchers have replaced everyone with pod people inthrall to a carnival barker. And our Failed Political Press ™ is missing the story of our lifetimes by trying to say that it is perfectly normal.

You cannot compare/contrast these things.

Bothsiderism is intentionally asymmetrical warfare; a heads-I-win/tails-you-lose GOP rigged game, like everything else they do. They’ve stacked a million lies against every single truth we can think of from climate change, to budget deficits to who won the last election. The MSM keeps doing it because it works and it props up the GOP to look like a legit outfit rather than the fascist sham it’s always been, even before Trump, and now especially because of Trump.

I would like to hear more from the press about what happens to a fascist political party when their glorious leader croaks.

    • Depends on the loyalty of the base. They’re in the third generation in North Korea….

I don’t know if the former guy’s spawn have the cunning of their daddy. The MAGAts REALLY identify with the former guy. The gummy idiot, the cokehead, and Plastic Barbie may not light up the rabble the way the former guy does.

It’s a fair comparison if you use it to show, as you did, that it is a contrast, not an equivalence.
“First, the Republicans – infighting to prove loyalty to an authoritarian creep
Second, the Democrats – discussions, sometimes impassioned, about what needs to be done FIRST to repair the damages^ Republican rule has cause in the last administration.”
^Note, the destruction from the Republican administration before the last one and the R admin before that – back to, at least, Reagan – was never completed. It’s like fighting a termite infestation, where you get so involved in removing the latest batch of termites that the Rs have installed that the damage caused by the actual bugs never gets completely fixed, nor adressed.

Liz Cheney won her election last November. Trumputin lost his. That is all.
