This tweet caught my eye last night:
If a criminal defense attorney says that his client was brainwashed into participating in The Stupid Coup because of Foxitus and Foxmania, can the American Psychological Association be far behind?
Question for the Legals amongst us: If said client is found not guilty because of Foxmania, does that set a precedent? Could we make announcements before every program that watching this network can lead to Foxitus? You know, like warnings on cigarettes packages and booze?
And I’m totally serious: can their broadcast license be taken away if the lawyer prevails – if Fox is legally responsible for misinforming the public, isn’t that cause?

“Sorority Row Vixens” on a “dirty-movie” channel for medium-grade pornography.

There is a point – should those addicted to the bs factory be forced to quit cold turkey, if the propaganda channel is found to be in violation of that “shouting FIRE in a crowded theater’ chestnut and closed down, or would there be a sort of “methadone for the masses” replacement. Maybe muscled guys in bikinis, like Cena and The Rock could join with the leotard set, like Peyton Manning and help talk the afflicted back into the reality based community.
Worth a shot.

No legal beagle, but I think you’d have to demonstrate that that was their intent. I have, having gone through the process once to get licensed for radio, given thought to that very question. It’s long been my thought if we applied the same standard as the nineteen fifties – the eighties even – yes. Incitation to violence, sedition, out-right lying. But … that’s entertainment! That has been the claim all along, from Lushrim Rimjob at least, Father Conklin was an honest man, that it’s just entertainment, it’s not on the broadcaster if the rubes bought the bullshit, the broadcasters only “sell” advertisement.
I’m afraid the only way we’ll get rid of Fox is some reich-wing nutball to blow it up.

Congress can legitimately regulate broadcast programing.
Regulate as in, require (station i.d. each hour required), or prohibit (BAN all broadcast of cigarette commercials). (But …”prior restraint,” “free speech,” “mind control”? Cram it.)
Congress banned cigarette ads because:
1) the product is addictive
2) the product is public health hazard.
Cigarettes may use print advertising, from billboards to magazines to point of sale, so Congress left them something.
Hate-filled oral LIES are ADDICTIVE and a hazard to PUBLIC Mental HEALTH.
unfoxmycablebox.com would require cable operators place FOX in their ‘extra cost’ tier of programing like HBO or porn or other addictive channels. You would subscribe to cable and then subscribe $extra to get FOX.
‘Hate-filled oral LIES’ pretty well describes and defines political campaign ads.
Which could be broadcast banned for the same law that bans cigarette ads.
In such a future — no political ads on TV — no 3-hour polit-infomercials — then, when a citizen chooses to know for whom to vote, well, citizen will just have to READ… something the candidate wrote, perhaps, and ultimately, have to READ the ballot.

Member of the APA here… I know you’re being facetious, but Right Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) is a well known pathology that has been identified in a pretty consistent 26% of the global population. There are various theories around this, but generally, there are two subsets; those who seek authoritarian power (ie. Fox News), and those who desire to live under authoritarian rule (ie. Fox News viewers).
These people will seek their in-group, and work to ensure that their corollary group is entirely in-line with their personal goals. They’re ideologically consistent, reliably engaged, and deeply committed to making sure that THEY are the ones whose rules are followed.
This dangerous group has always existed. It explains WWII, among others, and now that they are so well understood, they are more dangerous than ever. Fox exists to promote and control RWA.

I am a Behavioral Scientist, so not very engaged with the clinical side, but I understand that it’s a pathology that is connected to a number of diagnoses. It shows up often in research, and is often selected for in research populations.
We’re a fun bunch, eh?

I offer my original theory of neuro-political pathology.
The circulation of neurologic (electro- ) currents convenes a magnetic moment and field.
A magnet between the ears.
The left ear (brain) is North (ingress) pole, the right brain is South (egress) polarity. If so,
then left brain bias is reductive logic, (Rightism — what’s in it for me?),
and right brain bias is inductive logic, (Leftism — what’s in me for it, what I’m part of?)
Everybody’s a conservative. Everybody’s a liberal.
Depends on which of your two brains is ‘dominant’ hand.
And dominant hand depends on your age, and depends on how you develop your brain, and depends on if you got whacked in the head. i.e., temperature, volume, pressure

If half the brains are Rightist (Authority-given) and half the brains are Leftist (Self-said),
then 50% — the Authority thinkers divide into two types:
half of that half (25% — which is my point, 25% = 26%) — ASSERTS authority and the other
half of that half (25% of everyone), ACCEPTS authority (logically).
{ Maybe the Leftist half divided into halves appear as EXTRAsensitive and INTROspective.}

There is no broadcast license to revoke. They are a cable channel and not subject to FCC regulation.
