Meanwhile in Arizona…

The terrible sand people of the terrible sand kingdom of Arizonastan.

Republican legislatures across the country are trying to restrict voting, and the Terrible Sand Kingdom of Arizonastan has passed a bill that would stop voters from automatically receiving a mail-in ballot. That will suppress turn-out! Arizona has had three decades of mail-in voting.

The bill passed on a party-line vote (no d’uh, and where’s that bipartisanship Unicorn now?) and comes just months after former Prznint Stupid and his orcs and minions tried to overturn Arizona’s 2020 Goat Rodeo election results.

Arizona House passes bill that would stop some voters from automatically receiving mail-in ballots

(CNN)The GOP-led Arizona House on Tuesday passed legislation that would make changes to the mail-in voting process in the state, including stopping some voters from automatically receiving ballots…

Since it was amended in the House, the bill now must go back to the state Senate for final approval. If the Senate, scheduled to reconvene Thursday, passes the amended version, it will then go to Gov. Doug Ducey.

The Republican governor has not yet indicated whether he plans to sign the bill into law if it reaches his desk.

Of course he’ll sign it; why wouldn’t he?

  1. This is cutting thier own damned throats…until last year, by a wide margin more GQP voters voted by mail than Dems in this state. All the white cracker olds in White Supremacist Acres retirement communities and crazed gunfondlers in their trailers in the boonies voted this way all the time. You know, the folks that keep voting inthe Demon Dentist from Prescott, Paul Gosar.

Somehow I don’t think this is going to deter Democrats from voting much (short term) because we now approach elections like Sarah Connor gearing up to take down another Terminator….and with luck (crosses fingers and toes and knocks on wood like a goddamned woodpecker) 2022 isn’t going to be the traditional anti-incumbent plastering because the GQP are getting crazier and crazier, and their suburban strongholds are starting to lose patience with their bullshit. and this law would not affect voters until post-2024 (two election cycles)

Plus the GQP base will be choosing their candidates, and they’ll be voting in the “Leopards eating EVERYONE’S faces just to own the libs” canndidates, and well, given their resistance to getting vaxxed up…plenty of ’em are gonna be dead.

…this could especially impact voters who are independent or who are registered as unaffiliated and may not want to vote in party primaries.

I look forward to the unintended consequences resulting from republican voter suppression. In my experience, independents are chickenshit republicans afraid of people knowing their true party affiliation. Sucks to be them.

Should probably clarify that we “Unaffiliated” do not have the option of voting in primaries. Not a question of whither or no we want too ~ if we want to we can reregister into one of the various “parties” ~ but that it’s just not available to us. Unlike “Independents”, which is actually a political party with attendant platforms, mailings and other such bullshit. I’ve had more than a few good laughs at the Republicans complaining about all the mail they got after they registered “independent”. Another thing unaffiliateds don’t get …

      • In the TSKoA registered independents can vote in one party primary per cycle; the local GQP have encouraged their people to register as ‘independent’ so they could ratfuck the Democratic primaries.

Did anybody (else) see the new Goggle Earth timelapses of Lake Mead losing a couple hundred feet of water since 1979? Water levels at Hoover Dam are hovering (ha!) close enought right around that 1,025 foot mark that will trigger automatic reduction downstream that have been in place since the inception of the Colorado Water Authority, reductions that may well be seen this year.

Do not mistake my darkness for glee. As an old river-runner ~ float rivers in a float boat ~ it’s long been a dream to follow the Emerald Mile, to float the Grand Canyon. That’ll never happen.

    • When they allocated all the water from the Colorado back in the 30’s no one realized that the Southwest was at, roughly 1000 year high water levels.

We have ample evidence of a regular cycle of mega droughts in the Mountain West. They’re what caused the collapse of the previous two civilizations in the region…

There are many deep red areas that are fully infested with senior citizens. Retirement communities like the Sun Cities, (Grand, West, City) that rely on not having to get off their couch and vote. They will scream, but many just not apply for a new mail ballot scheme as they are sooooo low information they’ll never know.
