‘It’s Floriduh, Jake’

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Floriduh (Motto: Home of the newly wed and the nearly dead)  is clearly moving into 2024 Goat Rodeo territory:

Florida governor bans Covid-19 ‘vaccine passports’

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order Friday banning the use of Covid-19 passports in the state.

The order prohibits any government entity from issuing vaccine passports and blocks businesses from requiring any such documentation.

Why apply for a vaccine passport when you can just show a Ron DeSantis campaign donation receipt, amirite?

I’m old enough to remember when the GQP was the defender of private property and businesses, and Atlas Shrugging. Telling property and business owners what they could and could NOT do with their business and/or property was a line too far, and hence the maniacal roll-back of rules and regulations. The GQP was fine (and probably still is) with No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service signs, and allowing bakers to reject clients for being on Team Lavender.

But now it is a collapsing bridge too far when a private business wants proof of vaccination, say, before you get on a packed airplane so that they cannot be sued by the estates of the other passengers when they get off the super-spreaders.

And they still are, TG, they still are.

Just so long as they’re hurting the people they’re supposed to be hurting.

Just like the Gret Stets have Raahts that apply right up until it’s something like legalizing pot. Or gay marriage. Or being brown. Or voting.

I live in Floriduh, and when I got my first vaccine shot they gave me a card to bring along when I got my second shot. After my second shot they dated the card and gave it back to me. I took a picture and have it on my phone. I didn’t consider it a ‘passport’ at the time but I guess that’s what it is. So I’m probably breaking the law by carrying it around on my phone. So if you see an appeal for bail money from me at some future date you’ll know what happened.

Starting to look like deSantis will have reason to hijack something to Quba.

Also, I work at an airport. The airport is federal property, so everyone on airport property is required to wear a mask under federal law regardless of DeathSantis says. I had a woman come up to me a few days ago and ask, “do they make you wear a mask to work here? Because you’re governor says you don’t have to”. To which I replied, “I wear a mask and keep my distance when I go out because it saves lives. Furthermore, this airport is federal property and EVERYONE on airport property is required to wear a mask”. She just scoffed and scurried off.

I am pretty certain that the airlines will be able to demand proof of vaccination on federal airports regardless of state laws. But there are a few large private airports in the state that handle commercial airlines that could have problems.
