Alas this is the Age of Irredeemible Hacks so the shame quotient is a tad low. Bugger.

Jesus fucking Christ.
Todd’s conclusions is, “Our political system has no answers.” He basically throws his hands up and declares the Onion headline accurate. Nothing we can do here! I don’t know if he’s going for one of those “the government can’t help us because this is about community morals” feints that reporters love, or what. Sure seemed like he was about to explain how Tuesday bowling leagues are the only way to stop gun violence.
He also gives no indication that he is aware that Democrats sincerely want to do something about guns, even if there is a lot of disagreement about what, while Republicans are more or less entirely committed to doing nothing to assist people with mental health issues. I mean I’m sure that some Democrats are happy to cynically use the gun violence issue to drive votes, but at least our politicians are not out there talking about the need for better mental health access in order to prevent gun violence while their party platform calls for, and voting record supports, dramatically reducing access to mental health services.
But I’m sure that suggesting Republicans might be lying about their intentions would be exactly the kind of uncivil attitude that leads to gun violence, in Chuck Todd’s America.
