Amply be-chinned #MoscowMitch McConnell

Amply be-chinned Mitch McConnell is getting ready to play hardball, according to Tiger Beat on the Potomac’s gossip email:

MCCONNELL WARNS DEMS ON FILIBUSTER — Senate Minority Leader MITCH MCCONNELL delivered one of his most scathing warnings yet to Democrats eager to abolish the filibuster on the Senate floor this morning. The Kentucky Republican — who resisted pressure from DONALD TRUMP for four years to nix the chamber’s supermajority threshold — promised his colleagues a world of hurt should they go through with it. Republicans, he vowed, would throw up their own procedural hurdles — so many that “everything that Democrat[s] … did to Presidents Bush and Trump, everything the Republican Senate did to President Obama, would be child’s play.”

So what does he mean exactly? McConnell knows the ins and outs of Senate rules better than anyone. In an institution that operates by unanimous consent for everything— from turning on the lights, to allowing senators to give floor speeches or speed through the customary reading of lengthy legislative text — McConnell can slow down everything with one simple demand: Require quorums for everything. And he signaled he will.

That’s particularly problematic in a 50-50 Senate, where VP KAMALA HARRIS is not allowed to break procedural ties. “This chaos would not open up an express lane to liberal change,” McConnell said. “It would not open up an express lane for the Biden presidency to speed into the history books. The Senate would be more like a 100-car pileup, nothing moving.”

McConnell also sought to appeal to Democrats’ pragmatic side: If they go nuclear, Republicans willutilize the new chamber rules when they return to power — and that’s just a matter of time, folks. Abortion legislation. Defunding sanctuary cities. Concealed-carry permits nationwide. Right to work. Energy drilling. Southern border lockdowns. “The pendulum, Mr. President, would swing both ways. And it would swing hard,” McConnell promised.

Ol’ Mitch is making the best case for eliminating the filibuster, if not the freakin’ Senate (which would be fine by me, you know, if I ran the circus) which is the most anti-democratic (small dee) part of the gubmint.

I remind myself that #MoscowMitch has already done all this obstruction before and is threatening to do it again. Kill the fillibuster, get HR 1 passed, and let Mitch go home to Satan.

Hello TG. That is his big fear, that somehow the Democrats will pass HR 1. Because if the people get the right to vote unfettered and unhindered the Republicans will lose any chance of being a majority. Their numbers will shrink with every election because Democrats will do more and more for the people, things the majority want done. Let the government finally start working for the people instead of only serving the wealthy as the Republicans want. Hugs

Maybe Schumer will find his balls, drop the useless idea of bipartisanship and call #moscowmitch’s bluff. I cannot believe that not one of the dims understand the parliamentary rules of that antiquated institution as well as #moscowmitch. If #moscowmitch wants to go nuclear and obstruct everything, how is that any different from what we’ve seen in the past? The dims can’t let the moral bankruptcy of republicans go unnoticed…

Not being “head” of anything should begin to slow Moscow’s power. The problem is he still thinks he has power. I suppose he can still stir up some trouble, but not at all as he had been able to.
I am all for calling his bluff, caning that damned filibuster, and passing everything we can in the next 2 years. Otherwise, no one will know we were here. Maybe if we just stop being wimpy and pass the things near and dear to us, the rest of the country will see we have the right idea. Couldn’t hurt.

The fool. Democrats are passing the Biden agenda now with “zero input” from the GQP. All his ranting about “scorched earth” and “hundred car pileup” sound like the kind of empty threats trump specialized in before Twitter took his phone away. Enjoy the impotence, Mitch.

  6. McConnell is scared fucking shirtless that the D’s will nuke it, have two years for him to stew, powerless (because he can do none of those things as ‘Minority leader’), then another two of 100% obstruction…and Joe will put on his cool mirrored shades so #MoscowMitch can’t see him blink, and let the R’s take all the blame for things not working.

Also, 2022 isn’t looking so certain, with all the retirements they’re going to have serious QAnon Qrazy running as the GQP candidates, and they’ll long for the days when their candidates only we banned from the mall for picking up 15-year-olds..

That’s why he’s threatening doom he cannot do right now, all puffed up like a bearded dragon trying to scare away a predator…

Also #MoscowMitch has to live that long, and I think he’s sicker than he’s letting on, since he’s busily trying to get the Kentucky Lege to make sure Gov. Beshear has to appoint a republicant to fill any vacancies.

This isn’t a move from power, it’s a move from desperation.

Who exactly is Mitch McConnell and why is he important? I think it is time to to take a look at this politician. What has he been up to? What are his connections? Who is Elaine Chao?
    They should retire.
That old man is not looking very healthy these days. He plans to keel over in his office one of these days, right in the middle of another one of his plots .
I wonder what he was like as a child? People aren’t born monsters, you have to work at it.

McConnell knows the ins and outs of Senate rules better than anyone? Balderdash. McConnell knows the ins and outs of obstructionism, nothing more, nothing less. McConnell should be more worried about his party’s loose cannon.
