News That Will Drive You To Drink

Happy Hour News

It’s the rare day when I praise Amazon for anything, but they did something right:

Amazon stops selling books that describe being LGBTQ+ as an illness

The company explained their decision to a group of Republican senators in a letter dated March 11.

Gonna guess that this was NOT the outcome that the Y’all Qaeda brain trust wanted:

First reported by The Wall Street Journal, the letter was addressed to Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), in response to an earlier letter from the senators dated Feb. 24.

How many 2024 Goat Rodeo candidates do you spot in that list? Yeah, me too.

The senators reportedly said in the first letter that Amazon’s decision to revoke “When Harry Became Sally” represents a message “to conservative Americans that their views are not welcome on its platforms,” per the Journal.

No, hate speech is not welcome on their platform. Maybe we should thank Y’all Qaeda for bringing it to Amazon’s attention?

The HuffPo picks up some details that The Hill missed:

The company hadn’t intended to single out one book, he explained. Rather, it will be banning the entire category altogether.

You know, as a private company can do. Right, Senators?

“We reserve the right not to sell certain content,” [Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president for public policy] wrote. “All retailers make decisions about what selection they choose to offer, as do we.

“As to your specific question about When Harry Became Sally, we have chosen not to sell books that frame LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness.”

Given all the books on Amazon, it is strange how 4 senators noticed this and decided to investigate, innit? My guess: the author got their attention…

…and they thought that they could frame the story as Dr. Seussian Cancel Culture.

Its sudden disappearance from Amazon’s store prompted Republican Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), Mike Lee (Utah), Mike Braun (Ind.) and Josh Hawley (Mo.) to accuse the e-commerce giant of political censorship “for the the crime of violating woke groupthink.”

And that’s a wrap.

Jesus, they keep trying to roll back the clock on LGBTQ rights, and we need to fight them every step of the way.

Well we’ve cum a long ways. I ‘m so old I remember when a young boy or girl could be institutionalized for being attracted to the same sex. Not sure what the treatment was, but it probably involved a lot of clandestine sex with similarly dispositioned others. Hurrah for America. On December 23, 1973 the American Psychological Association declared homosexuality to be a normal genetically derived trait, therefore there was no inherent need to punish or reform individuals so disposed. Here in the 2020’s we still have people railing something about conversion therapy and Dog’s judgement and the road to Hell, but be assured Dog was part of the plan…

Woke groupthink? Who woke up that sleeping giant anyway bubba? Reminds me of the time period when conservatives used to like words that began with ‘be’ like befuddled or bedazzled. Fads are still all the rage.

For anybody who doesn’t feel like reading Anderson’s complaints about the Washington Post piece, he does have a valid complaint.

The original Post piece says that Anderson claims that transgenderism is a disease.

However, after contacting Anderson directly, the Post clarifies that Anderson does NOT think that transgenderism is a disease. He believes it is a state-sponsored cult that is trying to brainwash young people.

He believes that we need to encourage feminine men to be more manly and masculine women to be more feminine, and then people won’t make fun of them as much. This won’t actually fix their gender dysmorphia, but at least they will know that their trans feelings are icky and wrong.

This is the information that he thinks will prove he is being unfairly cancelled by Amazon.

He also clarifies that he does not believe in ex-gay therapy. He believes that gay people should be celibate, and that universities are anti-Christian because the LGBTQ centers do not provide assistance to gay people who are trying to be celibate in order to avoid sin.

Again, I stress, these are the views he thinks redeems him from the unfair accusation of being a bad-faith bigot.

Fuck, sorry, going to stop reading about this guy now. I will however note that while he doesn’t advocate any specific ex-gay therapy, he does say that gay people need to “work with [their] therapists to address the psychological causes of [their] attraction.”

So he doesn’t advocate ex-gay therapy. He just thinks being gay is a mental disorder that therapists should attempt to cure. Which is totally different.

Those people have a problem. We have always had our genders. It is no big fukkin deal. Now i have to understand terms like “cis” and “trans”. It’s not healthy to do that. With us it is more primitive . We just say so and so likes guys . We say did you oh did you hear that Alice and Kate are going to get married! We say that boy likes to grow up and be a woman. We say that girl is a tomboy and be a brave person who will help us. This whole trans controversy is another of these frauds that are being forced on us. I’m going to ask the people who are doing this- why? what do you hope to gain?.. Yall better watch out, pretty soon they will be burning witches at the stake.

Bonus- Senator Mike Lee from Utah is one of the nastiest politicians i have seen in my life.

  11. Ten Bears says:

Gotta’ wonder about those people, all they can think of is gay sex.

[True story: a number of years ago some bozo made a suggestion he shouldn’t have and I asked him: “is that all you think about, gay sex?” He got mad and I had to slap him around a bit. That was fun]
