Won’t happen again

That was fast:

NYT Columnist David Brooks Resigns From Nonprofit After More Evidence Of Conflicts Emerges

“David Brooks has resigned from his position at the Aspen Institute following reporting by BuzzFeed News about conflicts of interest between the star New York Times columnist and funders of a [Weave] program he led for the think tank. …

“Over the past 24 hours, BuzzFeed News discovered new evidence of potential conflicts. On March 15 of last year, as Americans faced a deadly pandemic, Brooks appeared on ‘Meet The Press’ and offered some advice. ‘We need to take moral steps to make ourselves decent neighbors to each other as we go through this thing. I think people should get on Nextdoor, this sort of “Facebook for neighbors,”’ he said. Left unsaid by Brooks was that Nextdoor, a social network for neighborhoods, had donated $25,000 to Weave.”

Brooks is such an obvious hypocrite and moral scold, this is really Schadenfreude injected directly into my heart.

  1. I think people should get on Nextdoor, this sort of “Facebook for neighbors,”’ he said.

Lol, yes. Yes it is. Complete with trolls and wild misinformation, but not quite as many ads….

I’m on it and I”ll be honest, mostly it’s friendly, lost/found dogs and cats but it’s full of “I saw someone suspicious in the neighborhood!” “Someone swiped my Amazon Delivery” and enough reports of gunfiire mayhem and crime that you would think we lived in Beiruit.

    1980’s Beiruit.

And someone chiming in LOL Sheeple! every time someone talks about getting vaccinated…or having troubles getting vaccinated, and MaSkS DoN’t WoRk! ThE ExPeRtS SaId So!!

Mostly what it’s good for is recognizing that some of your ‘neighbors’ are nice people, and some are paranoid beyond belief. Last week someone recommended a housecleaner, and someone else started a long thread on how that’s how the ‘meth zombies’ gitcha! They perform a good service for fee just so they can case your house! That we should NEVER ask for a handyman, house cleaner, dog groomer, or heaven forfend a house-sitter on this site because the ‘criminals’ monitor these sites closely and use their evil genius skillz to ferret out your actual details from…your screen name and the general neighborhood you live in and come rob and murder you.

When we called a plumber for a reverse osmosis system, he arrived with his mask below his nose. When The Bride pointed that out, he started yelling and stomped out, slamming the door so hard it bounced back open.

      That went on Nextdoor.

Then there was the guy who recommended Parler for “free discussion.” That post didn’t last long.
