Because of the 14th Amendment, That’s Why!

Insurrection enthusiast Sen. Josh Hawley Salutes the Stupid Coup Troops

Scissorhead M Davis alerts us to an article that is a companion piece to our post from Rep. Zoe Lofgren’s office the other day:

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif), has compiled pieces of the publicly available social media postings made by those representatives who voted to deny Americans their choice of president; they did this even after a riotous mob overran the Capitol just hours earlier. Her nearly 2,000-page report, which has been online for a week, is both a trove of documentation and a steaming electronic landfill of fetid lies and incitement…

…Why do we need to see it? Because according to the 14th amendment of the US Constitution, “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress” after swearing an oath to support the Constitution, and then engaging in “insurrection or rebellion.”

And suddenly Rep. Lofgren’s office-wide effort takes form.

Anyone who has effectively abetted or engaged in insurrection does not belong in Congress.

The Constitution also empowers Congress to “punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour.” Those who promoted insurrection should be expelled. In the meantime, voters should have the facts. If their colleagues do not expel them, if the courts move too slowly, voters should take matters into their own hands.

Apparently a lot of people don’t get beyond the 2nd Amendment in their reading of the Constitution.

Apparently not past the 1st, as they would otherwise know the 2nd provides recourse for the tyrannies of minority – them – imposed upon the majority – the rest of us.

Does this mean at least 8 Senators and 197 Reps?

Good on Rep. Lofgren. My own rep. is disgusting and his tweets occupy numerous pages of her report. Holding GQPers accountable is essential and critical IMO, but as our national short attention span allows all this to soften over time, I am a bit pessimistic. Hope I am proven wrong. Will Chimpy be proven right when he said the Constitution was just a piece of paper? Its still a national crisis until there’s full accountability.

At worst the only thing that will happen to those morally bankrupt republicans who participated in the insurrection might be censure, which will be watered down to a sternly worded letter given the speaker doesn’t know what day it is or where she’s at most of the time. FFS

Zoe looks like a Democrat who wakes up with a smile on her face, rises out of bed and says to herself,

“Today is a great day to punish sedtionist Republicans. Gonna hurt ’em.”
