‘Oops,’ Said Faceberg (Part Infinity)

So lifelike.

In what has become a typical response, Facebook has blocked Facebookers in Australia from seeing/sharing news. You see, Australia legislators proposed that Facebook (and Google) should pay publishers when they steal er, ‘host’ their content.

France, Canada, and even the EU have hinted that they might follow Australia’s lead. And we cannot have that now, can we?

And maybe this is another Oops (or maybe not?): Facebook also blocked pages from gubmint of Australia. “Nice little country, you got there,” Faceberg did not sneer, “Hate to see anything happen to it.”

And of course, comedy ensued: Facebook blocked their own Australian pages. Oops!

Google actually took the news in stride and is working out a payment deal with individual publishers, and didn’t threaten anyone nor try to shake down the gubmint… weird huh?
