Lucy Shocked: Charlie Brown Kicks Football!

OK, guys, the Democrats are playing hard ball and not counting on a Unity Pony  – Axios morning email thingie:

At 5:34 am on Friday, the Senate voted 51-50 to advance the budget resolution that will be used to facilitate passage of President Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief proposal, with Vice President Harris acting as the tie-breaking vote for the first time.

Why it matters: Passing the relief package via the budget reconciliation process allows Democrats to sidestep the 60-vote threshold needed to approve most major legislation.

  • The resolution will now go back to the House for final approval, at which point committees be allowed to begin writing the bill.
  • Final passage came after 15 hours of debate on amendments proposed by senators.

What they’re saying: A month ago today, two senators from Georgia, two Democratic senators, were elected,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a speech on the Senate floor following passage of the resolution.

  • “And just a month from that day, we have taken a giant step to begin to fulfill our promise to the American people that a Democratic Senate, a Democratic House and President Biden will have their back and move them forward during this awful crisis.”

This is the thing to note: not even one GQP Senator voted for relief that the American people want/need. Not one. Sen. Joe Manchin even voted for it!

President Handsome Joe Biden told the  GQP he has “an open door and an open mind,” but he also had the votes, and overwhelming support in the country. And true to form, Republicans did not act in good faith.

President Biden is not going to be hamstrung like President Obama whittling down lives in the name of bipartisanship, waiting for the Coup Klux Klan to poison the apple.. Joe saw what happened and learned from it.

Yeppers! Experience is a great teacher: She gives the test first, and the lesson afterward.

She is indeed. Thank you JMC, that’s a very clever turn of phrase.

Similarly, we liberals have been trained to expect disappointment in our elected officials, so this has been a wonderful new experience for many of us. I do still expect the other shoe to drop – perhaps soon – but I’ll take every moment of this forward movement that I can get.

In the meantime, here’s to a long and happy lesson!

“Madam Vice President” has such a nice ring to it. So does “Secind Gentleman.”

I was not too worried about Sen Manchin on this one. He has always been pretty decent when it comes to “the working class”. Apparently the tanning that Mitt’s butt received completely removed his (still) atrophied spine-like appendage.

No word on Sen Collins’ concern? We have a right to know! We NEED to know!

    • As I mentioned earlier, sending VP Harris to WV to tell Jim Justice what a great job he’s done with the vaccine roll-out (surprise twist: *he DID do a great job with it” ) and Justice responding like he did was a master work of politics on the part of the Administration.

Jim gave Manchin cover to vote for going big.

Going big will be hella popular, and the GQP and FauxSnooze are going to have a hard time convincing even Possum Hollar of it when they get the big checks, even if they don’t have LDN’s KKK scrawl on ’em.

Is Susan Collins concerned? Troubled? As seen elsewhere: I really don’t care, do U?

  4. This is rich. What a shock. Joe’s all for unity, but he’s not playing – which is great.
