There’s been a disturbance in the Farce:
“…In the week from Jan. 6 through Jan. 12, about 4,600 Republicans changed their party status in Colorado, according to a CPR News analysis. There was no comparable effect with any other party. CPR News was able to contact dozens of them by tracking changes in the state’s voter file…
“…All told, the Colorado GOP lost about a half a percent of its registered voters in the week after the riot.”
You might not think that half a percent means much, but in many states it is enough to win a state-wide race, and depending on how it is distributed, it could be enough to change congressional district hands. Anyway, it wasn’t just Colorado:
“The number of people changing parties spiked immediately after the Capitol breach. The same phenomenon is playing out nationwide. News outlets documented about 6,000 defections from the party in North Carolina, 10,000 in Pennsylvania and 5,000 in Arizona.
Yes, the Terrible Sand Kingdom of Arizonastan is shedding Coup Klux Klanners like so many snake scales. The Republican Civil War is separating the grain from the conspiracy theorists. And while that might be hopeful, note two things: A) that means that what is left of the GOP is pure, distilled hatred and 2) these people in the story didn’t re-register en masse as Democrats: most are now Independents.
Gonna repeat myself: if you still have Republicans in your life, you need to ask yourself why.
