This is unbelievable to me:
Bill seeks two copies of photo ID to vote absentee in Georgia
Georgia voters would be required to make copies of their photo ID and mail them to election officials twice before being allowed to cast an absentee ballot, according to a bill introduced Wednesday.
The legislation, Senate Bill 29, would create a photo ID requirement for voting outside of polling places in Georgia. Voters would need to submit ID both when applying for absentee ballots and when returning them.
“Picture ID and proof of owning a Cannon scanner, please. HP’s are not accepted.”
This is why it’s vitally important that HR1 gets passed. CALL AND WRITE YOUR CONGRESSCRITTERS!

Very much believable. In the last election, I double-checked to make sure that I wrote my own signature acceptably. I think the voter suppression stuff is working — it was the first time I’d felt that my vote had a 50-50 chance of being counted.

Bummer. My printer won’t handle 11X17 paper. Because that’s the size I would definitely be using.

Hello TG. I wonder how federal voting rights act that would get rid of gerrymandering and onerous requirements to vote would pass legal challenges by the states? With the SCOTUS bowing out of gerrymandering cases and shifting hard right, would the federal government be able to set a national voters rights and rules? Hugs

Scottie –
Not without an amendment to the Constitution. All of that is left to the states.
That said, I am not a lawyer, and it seems that with enough determination and backbone, someone clever can come up with a work-around. (
That interstate pact that many states have signed, for instance, that says they will give their EC votes to the popular vote winner – if the majority of states signed on, it effectively eliminates all the EC voting shenanigans without needing an amendment to the Constitution.)
People more clever than me are probably already working on it.
Rgds,
TG
