One of the absolute greatest comedic actresses of this or any era has gone to the great encore in the sky. She died in her sleep of natural causes. Leachman was 94, which is extra curtain calls in my book.
Leachman won the Oscar for her performance “The Last Picture Show” and chewed up the scenery in “Young Frankenstein” but her career really took off with a legendary role on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and of course “Phyllis.” Her IMDB page is astonishing.
I’m ordering the flags here at the hut to be at half-mast. Giants once walked amongst us.
She will be sorely missed.
UPDATE 1: The Master –
I guess Thurman Merman will have to make his own sandwiches now.
[My favorite Xmas movie, Bad Santa.]

She was so awesome. It’s a hard loss, but she had a good run, and dying while asleep is a good thing, as death goes.

That is one of my all-time favorites, and she was brilliant in the opening scenes. I just loved her dialogue with Ralph Meeker.

What a class act. She was a great talent, and if I may say treasure. Her crazy grandmother roles were priceless. Here’s a bit of trivia from her memoirs her real life mother-in-law was teevee actress Mabel Albertson, aka, Samantha Stevens’s MIL on “Bewitched”: “Frank! I’m getting one of my sick headaches!” I’m not surprised Scissorheads are fans.

I often watch classic TV and she was in a surprising number of old Westerns. She had played dramatic roles in The Big Valley, Wanted Dead or Alive, and Bonanza. She was a gifted actress and a multifaceted one. She’ll be missed.
