Grifters Gotta Grift

“The bribe must be this big to get my attention.”

The NYTimes tells us that besides being the consummate inside trader, Sen. Perdue in his old day job was particularly adept at sending YOUR jobs offshore:

Before Embracing America-First Agenda, David Perdue Was an Outsourcing Expert

“The man who has lately voiced support for some of President Trump’s signature tariffs built his career as an unapologetic, free-trading practitioner of the outsourcing arts. As a top executive at companies including Reebok, Sara Lee and Dollar General, he was often deeply involved in the shift of manufacturing, and jobs, to low-wage factories in China and other Asian countries.

“A review of that business record shows a man who achieved significant successes, making millions, managing complex periods of corporate growth and change and creating domestic jobs, particularly at Dollar General. But there were also disappointments, like the failed trucking business he ran with Sonny Perdue and his fruitless effort to rescue a company called Pillowtex that brought heartbreak to a North Carolina mill town.”

Nothing surprises me about this grifter, but at least he’s always been consistent in ensuring his own enrichment at the expense of others.

Well they are “domestic” and I suppose they could be called “jobs” but Dollar General is pretty much a shining example of just how far down the tubes much of America has gone. they’re the last gasp before obliteration for lots of rural places; when even Walmart has abandoned them.

This is the reality in most of trumps “vast sea of red” electoral maps.

Not all dollar stores are this bad, ( the ever more mis-named, everything now costs $1.08 ) 99¢ Only stores have a decent selection of produce and fresh foods, but I don’t know how true that is of ones in smaller towns; the ones here in Tucson are within a mile, generally, of two or three large grocery stores or general retailers like Target or Walmart.

We call 99¢ Only store the Ends in .99 store because much of their stuff cost multiple dollars ($1.99, $2.99, etc.). Still, for cheap, crappy stuff they have pretty good cheap, crappy stuff definitely including the produce.

For the record, my favorite (real) dollar store is Dollar Tree, and I don’t like Dollar General.

Perdue’s deliberate mispronunciation of Kamala Harris’ first name was particularly disgusting because the asshole worked in India for a while.

Oh, so he’s the guy I should blame when my job of 24 1/2 years (The joke? Six more months and they would have given me a parking spot) was sent to Shanghai…
