The Morning Coup of Coffee

Banana Republicans Worship Hair Füror

After the Wayne County election board in Michigan voted to certify the county’s election results on Tuesday night, Lord Damp Nut phoned the two Republican members who had toyed for a few hours with overthrowing the election.

In a weird coinkydink those two Red Hats then changed their minds and tried to rescind their votes. It’s a mystery, how a perfect phone call could do that.

Then this happened:

Yup, Vulgarmort’s brain trust dismissed its last Michigan lawsuit believing that Wayne County’s certification had been blocked!

Then, Michigan’s secretary of state declared that the county’s certification vote was final. Oops!

So now,  Prznint Stupid has invited the two top Republicans in Michigan’s GOP-controlled legislature to the White House to demand that they appoint a slate of Trump electors, you know, over the will of the voters.

Lord Daump Nut is attempting to overturn the results of an election he lost by nearly six million votes, and the fact that —so far— it hasn’t worked due to his incredible incompetence is not really comforting. What happens when the Republican nominate a competent fascist?

Our take-away: Republicans are willing to be co-conspirators to destroy democracy. If anyone has any doubts that the Republican Party is now full-on authoritarian, please let us know in the comments. We will gladly disabuse you of that notion.

If this kind of raw attempt to overthrow a democratically elected leader happened in some banana republic, Republicans would be flying out of the country to investigate, but because it is happening here to benefit themselves, no big deal.

To be fair, if it was happening in some banana republic and it benefitted them, they’d be just fine with that, too. See: Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, etc etc etc ad vomitorium.

That’s the most haunting question to emerge from all this. There aren’t many would-be fascists as incompetent as Trump. It may be that every presidential election for the next couple of decades will represent an existential threat if the Republicans win.

Been thinking that for some time; if he was a tad more subtle, didn’t always say the evil shit out loud, less outlandish and more consistent – this could all actually be completely hopeless and irreversible at this point.

What if Republicans have already nominated competent fascists. You know, like the ones who paved the way for LDN.

I do believe the gubberner has to sign off on such a maneuver, which she has clearly stated she would NOT. Same in PA, I understand, as in AZ, NV and GA.
They’re flailing, and failing at it, so their only final recourse is to appoint lackeys who will be hard to remove, rollback as many regs as possible, and stick as many monkey wrenches in the gears of Gubmint as they can, to gum up the works.

And in just a little over 3 years, when the next round of campaigning begins, I imagine the Rethug’s slogan will be: “Blame it on Biden!” And they’ll commandeer the media again, to remind the 72 million nitwits and ninnyhammers who thought 4 more years of tRump would be just fine, that Joe wrecked it, he didn’t “inherit it”, and since he won’t be able to fix much in 4 years with antagonistic, hate-filled Rethugs blocking him, he was also too incompetent to fix it.

      Absolutely, DC.

If they eff things up enough, the quadrennial question of are you better off now than 4 years ago will be theirs to ask. That gnat-attention’ed American will know that the Republicans screwed the pooch is a foregone conclusion.

  4. Why would those two GOP legislative leaders in Michigan even accept the invitation from Trump? They could have declined, said they had to wash their hair or care for a sick cat. It’s concerning that they agreed to go to the White House at all. I sure hope they can be check-mated.

  5. There’s breaking news that he’s also planning on doing the same with members of PA’s GOP.

I expect a petition to abolish the electoral college, signed by fifty secretaries of state. I’m sure Raffensperger is not the only one, or even the only Republican, getting death threats.

    They’ve lost Joni Ernst.
From The Hill (Hoyer on Trump Election Challenges)

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) condemned claims from Sidney Powell, a lawyer associated with the Trump campaign, who said that down-ballot candidates could have “paid to have the system rigged to work for them,” with the GOP senator calling Powell’s statement “offensive” and “absolutely outrageous.”
