Here’s the state of play as I understand it:
- Handsome Joe Biden has 238 electoral votes
- Prznint Stupid has 209
- Biden has more paths to winning than Prznint Stupid:
Biden has many pathways to win the Electoral College — Just as we expected going into Election Day, Vice President Biden has many more paths to victory than Trump.
NV + WI + MI = 270+
WI + MI + GA = 270+
WI + MI + PA = 270+
MI + PA + GA = 270+
You get the picture…
- Lord Damp Nut is following his playbook claiming victory then claiming voter fraud (so the victory he cites is fraud?) and demanding that counting absentee ballots be stopped by his Supreme Court. Tiger Beat’s morning email thingie:
The congressional reaction: Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), a sometimes Trump critic who just won reelection, tweeted at the president: “Stop. Full stop. The votes will be counted and you will either win or lose. And America will accept that. Patience is a virtue.” … Retiring Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) called it ”one of the most dishonest and despotic speeches ever given by a president of the United States.” … Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) called Trump a “liar” and said the president is trying to “steal the election by cheating.”
- Handsome Joe Biden is calmly demanding that the ballots be counted.
“Look, we could know the results as early as tomorrow morning. But it may take a little longer, as I’ve said all along.
“It’s not my place or Donald Trump’s place to declare who’s won this election. That’s the decision of the American people. But I’m optimistic about this outcome.
“Keep the faith, guys, we’re going to win this.”
We’re exactly where we thought we would be this morning.
That the vote should be close enough for Republicans to steal is shocking.
All that said, our failed political press failed us again and covered Hair Füror’s lies when he claimed victory. Press Run reports:
Falling into the same, destructive trap much of the press has been stuck in for four years under Trump, the Associated Press early Wednesday morning committed a major blunder by allowing Trump to dictate the false narrative about the unfolding campaign. Rather than clearly calling out his lies about close, contested elections in states across the country, the AP let Trump make false assertions to dishonestly frame the crucial story of his premature victory declaration.
“Trump touts wins in key states, says he will fight election in Supreme Court,” the influential wire service reported around 2 a.m., following Trump’s untrue comments about the ballot-counting process, from the White House. “President Donald Trump said he is going to the Supreme Court to stop all vote counting in an election he claims to have already won.”
The AP committed the cardinal sin of reproducing Trump’s lies as news, without first informing readers the comments and assertions are untrue. The AP allowed Trump to promote the thoroughly false claim about the extended election needing judicial oversight because of fraudulent voter behavior. To date, there’s absolutely zero proof of fraud taking place.
Our Failed Social Media did better but were not great.
- Twitter flagged Prznint Stupid’s claim of victory as being misleading and hid it from view and disabled replies and likes.
- Facebook and Instagram added a generic note that said that votes were still being counted and that the winner of the election had not yet been projected. Facebook also added a label to the video of the speech itself that reads: “Final results may be different from initial vote counts, as ballot counting will continue for days or weeks after polls close.”
That said, you can still find the video of his victory speech and watch it.
On Twitter, it sits on Prznint Stupid’s timeline right above his earlier hidden post about election stealing. The WaPo Reports that Twitter says the video does not violate its policies.
This is how you do it: NBC News cut Trump off mid-speech as soon as he started lying about winning.
Gonna re-up what we said about social media the other day: There’ll be mountains of bad information. Don’t waste time on it, and don’t share it.
Whatever happens next, we Scissorheads went into Election Night knowing we’ve done all that we could. I’m really proud of all of us.
Thank you for the work you’ve done to get us to today, thank you for being part of this community of incorrigible spitballers, and thank you for never giving up the fight. We’re in this together. We will prevail!
UPDATE 1 – From Scissorhead StonyPillow, in the comments:
FWIW, here’s a 7:00 am summary of results (data courtesy WaPo)
Biden has 224 sewed up. Assuming a blue shift in all states (nothing gets worse from here), Biden is leading and should win in the following states:
That brings Biden to 254. Here are the other contested states:
Michigan (16) -4.9% with 22% left to count. Biden needs >61% of remaining vote
Georgia (16) -2.2% with 8% left to count. Biden needs >63% of remaining vote
North Carolina (15) -1.4% with 5% left to count. Biden needs >64% of remaining vote
Pennsylvania (20) -11.5% with 22% left to count. Biden needs >75% of remaining vote
Maine 2nd District -6.9% (No further information available)
From reports in Michigan on where the uncounted ballots lie (only half of Detroit has been counted, delayed results in Flint and a lot of other urban areas), it looks like MI will be in the Biden column soon. That brings Biden to exactly 270, a tie. We can seal the deal with any one of the 4 remaining contests. In other words, a lot closer than pollsters indicated, but still basically good news. It looks like a win from here.
We must show we will not tolerate anything less than counting every vote. Trump has already declared victory. If we let Brooks Brothers rioters or the Trumpanzees in Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania decide these states, we will have no one else to blame for four more years of Trump but ourselves.
Don’t depend on the DNC or the Biden campaign to protect our vote. They’re riding on our backs. We will save this election.
UPDATE 2: I forgot to mentions it, Marjorie Taylor Greene will be the Representative from Q. Noted Racist and admitted Nazi tourism enthusiast Republican Madison Cawthorn will become the youngest member to serve in Congress.
