  1. It’s hard. I keep flashing back on 2004 and 2016

    I feel like this

So it comes down to Pennsylvania. The 11:00am CST totals (again, courtesy of WaPo and a little basic math):

Georgia (16) -2.2% with 3% left to count. Biden needs nearly all (>86%) of the remaining vote
North Carolina (15) -1.4% with 1% left to count. Not sure why it hasn’t been called for Trump yet, maybe rounding errors and uncertainty in total number of absentee ballots.
Pennsylvania (20) -8.7% with an estimated 17% left to count. Biden still needs >75% of estimated remaining vote
Maine rural 2nd District (1) -6.9%. No further information available, but Business Insider has it called for Trump.

Pennsylvania accepts absentee ballots which were postmarked on or before Nov. 3, as long as they arrive by Friday.

Worst case (again, assuming a blue shift in all states) is Biden 270, Trump 270. If I were in charge of Team Trump, I’d muster every Brooks Brothers rioter and Trumpanzee available and fly them in to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg to create chaos.

BTW, I’ll be at the Protect the Vote assembly at 95th St and S. Western Ave in Chicago. If you happen to stop by, look for a mismatched chunky old fart and his lovely wife socially distancing and sitting comfortably in two lawn chairs.

I don’t see any chickens, just a bunch of eggs and a nasty fat man swinging his jowls.

The issue still in doubt, big time.

What a screwed up country we live in. It’s NOT the America I grew up in, that’s for sure.

If I were younger, I would seriously consider moving to Canada. Our political system is genuinely broken.

Yep – RH, you’re right. Never thought I’d see the day when we’d be in the mess we’re now in.

Not only do we have an effing authoritarian PIG who has almost half the population brainwashed in a death cult, but the talismanic word “socialism” makes them all go apeshit. They don’t understand that in the 30s the same bogeyman was used to oppose social security and medicare in the 60s. (Remember “socialized medicine?”) The colossal stupidity (and racism) of nearly half of our population is perhaps the most depressing fact of all.

What makes me sick is that, whether the Democrats win the Presidency or not, Senators Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell, and Lindsey Graham kept their Senate seats, and Representatives Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz and Louis Gohmert kept their seats, too.

That means they paid no price whatsoever for voting against the impeachment or any of their other votes. This election did not serve to help clean up the criminals, it’s the opposite. The American people voted for the worst people in government, condoning them and rewarding them with more years in office. And they’ll make it more impossible than ever to get good things done.

But please give us a Biden presidency anyway.

  8. Look at the upside – the virus will no continue unabated for another year, killed a million Americans, while the economy collapses and the dollar ceases to be the international reserve currency – and it will all be unambiguously the fault of the GOP. If we get lucky, the ten million unemployed and homeless Americans will now wise up, march on NY and DC and lynch the entire bunch.

We will be rid of that evil presence in January. All signs are right for Biden to take Arizona (AP already called it), Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan, almost definitely PA, and very possibly Georgia. Whoa: Biden just won Wisconsin (10 EV), called the most divided state in US.

The Senate is a deep disappointment.

I’m not ready to “kill all the pollsters.” This was a very erratic year with the pandemic and tons of first time mail ballots, etc. A lot of Democrats’ disappointment is due to not listening to the pollsters’ warning of a “red mirage” followed by a slow count of mail-in ballots. And that’s what we’re seeing.

Well, the pollsters didn’t exactly cover themselves with glory. But the baseline problem is our population. I remember in the 60s when Theodore H White wrote those “the making of a president 19__” books. The whole electoral process was described as if we were talking about demigods running, and the books gave off this aura about (my words) “the innate good sense of the American people.” It was all “the miracle of free elections, ain’t America grand?” stuff.

Now we think of our national elections as shit shows in which isn’t just possible one of the presidential candidates will be a huckster, criminal, and con man, but that the system will actually elect him. The most bitter take away for me is that I am a citizen of a country whose people are incredibly stupid, tribal, and unmoored from basic things like facts and science. Georgia is actually sending a Q-Anon conspiracist to the House. In many ways, that kind of says it all.
