If we don’t have shrimp we can fall back on tuna, salmon or even the under-rated chicken.

My aunt used to make THE most delicious shrimp dip every Thanksgiving, and one year, she had a bowlful of it all prepped and ready for the special mold it went into, before it got refrigerated, when she stopped to feed the cats, who wouldn’t stop yowling for their late lunch. By no great coincidence, it happened to be a shrimp-flavored kitteh food, and it bore an eerie resemblance to the dip, so when my uncle walked into the kitchen, he had to actually ask her, “Uhhh…….honey? Which one’s the dip?”
She knew quite well which was which, of course, but she gasped, and then acted confused; “OMG! I don’t remember!” He refused to partake of his favorite dip that year, and was quite grumbly about it, but ever since then, we in the fambly would ask for it by name; “Say, Auntie – did you make ‘Cat-food Surprise’ again this year? Is it ready yet?”
