Trump-Virus Relief Status: We’re Totally Eff’ed In The Dark, As Usual

27 Days To Go

Recall over the weekend one of the many all-cap tweets from Our Stable Jeenius while at Walter Reed:

And then note that yesterday Lord Damp Nut tweeted:

“Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith. I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of our Country. I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business. I have asked @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett. Our Economy is doing very well. The Stock Market is at record levels, JOBS and unemployment also coming back in record numbers. We are leading the World in Economic Recovery, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

The Best… Is Yet… TO COME!!1!

And with that,  Prznint Art of the Deal abandoned talks with Democrats about making a deal to provide additional stimulus funds.

It’s never clear what is our Stable Jeenius’ usual nut job-ery and when he’s jonesing to have an entire section of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders named in his honor.

It’s hard to imagine anything more Prznint Stupid could do to hurt his re-election chances, but, you know, we do have 27 days to go untill November 3, so he’ll come up with something. Undeterred is the word. Unhinged is another word.

Nancy Pelosi said out loud what everyone is thinking: That mother eff’er is cray-cray hopped-up on the Covid drugs:

Anyway, hours later, Prznint Stupid fired-up his  tweeting device and called on Congress to send him a “Stand Alone Bill for Stimulus Checks ($1,200).” —

Tiger Beat on the Potomac sums it up thusly:

MAN, WHAT A STRATEGY! If you think you’ve heard this before, it’s because you have! Republicans have been suggesting stand-alone bills for months. SpeakerNANCY PELOSI has even said that she would pass a stand-alone airline relief bill — one of her chairs tried last week, and the GOP blocked it. If TRUMP had pushed for this a month ago, when Congress was in session, it might have had a chance of being successful…

OK, THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE’LL DO THIS. The substance of why Covid relief talks fell apart: 1) The two sides were roughly $1 trillion apart. 2) The GOP on Capitol Hill didn’t want a $2 trillion bill. They wanted an $800 billion to $1.5 trillion bill. That never changed, no matter how many times Treasury Secretary STEVEN MNUCHIN huddled with PELOSI. Senate Majority Leader MITCH MCCONNELL was never going to ignore the majority of his conference, which didn’t want a big bill. 3) No one can really speak for TRUMP, other than TRUMP.

I’d try to summarize the current state of play, but by the time I hit publish who knows what the hell our barking mad, would-be dicktator (see what I did there) will have changed his mind 6 or 7 times.

Unfortunately, the republican concept of bi-partisan negotiation starts and ends with “do what we want.”

And I bet those checks are going to bear his smiling visage, and a warm message; the Head Printer at the US Treasury has the blank stock all primed and ready to roll, and is only awaiting the call to “Fire up the presses! Send those checks out IMMEDIATELY!”

Well, he’d better hurry up and get them sent ’cause the post office is moving kinda slow these days.

Personally, I’d love them to see them hit 100,000,00 mailboxes on the 5th of November.

They will tie any relief to legislation preventing COVID victims from suing the employers who put them at risk.
