‘Oops,’ Said Faceberg (Part Infinity)

So lifelike.

Guys, a quick round-up of some Facebook malfeasance, you know, just because it is terrible and should be broken up:

  • Ars Technica A former Facebook manager said the company “took a page from Big Tobacco’s playbook.”
  • Chicago Sun-Times: Facebook agreed to pay out $650 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that accused the company of violating an Illinois privacy law.
  • CNN: Facebook is letting political advertisers tell lies, contrary to its own policies.
  • Mother Jones: Facebook Groups Sent Armed Vigilantes to Kenosha.
  • NBC: A group of Facebook critics are tired of waiting for its official oversight board to launch, so they’re starting their own.
  • NPR: Civil Rights Groups Say If Facebook Won’t Act On Election Misinformation, They  Will
  • The Verge: Facebook says it ‘mistakenly’ suspended hundreds of activists’ accounts

These are not the actions of a good corporate citizen

  1. I recently read an article describing what FB, Amazon, Twitter and Google do as “Surveillance capitalism” (via Crooked Timber https://crookedtimber.org/2020/09/23/story-ate-the-world-im-biting-back/ ) and Mrs Desertrat just told me we need to watch “Hacking your mind” https://www.pbs.org/show/hacking-your-mind/

They have weaponized our brains and our very identity as social primates against us.

I’m coming around to the idea that FB is run as a consciously evil entity. They are the Wolfram and Hart of social media.

Although I truly appreciate the hat tip, I can’t take responsibility for all those links. Six of those links are yours and only one is mine. Speaking of which. As a resident of IL I have applied for my free money from Faceberg and upon arrival will be sure and inform my conservative friends that I received a check from Mark Zuckerberg and not George Soros. Sometimes it is a wonderful life.

If i were making predictions, Zuckerberg[spit] would be my choice of tech robber barons to go the full Howard Hughes. Jobs[spit] sort of went there, with his insistence that woo would cure his cancer until it was far too late, and Bezos[spit] might get there first, what with the divorce, but the siege mentality zuckerberg[spit] displays this early on makes him the clear frontrunner.

I take pride in the fact that I was banned from Facebook TWICE for posting that Israel is an apartheid state.

I think just knowing what facebook is doing should negate 95% of what they are trying to pull off.
