Exhale, Little Planet.

The NYTimes tells us:

“The Trump administration said Thursday it would allow new offshore oil and gas drilling in nearly all United States coastal waters, giving energy companies access to leases off California for the first time in decades and opening more than a billion acres in the Arctic and along the Eastern Seaboard.”

“The proposal lifts a ban on such drilling imposed by President Barack Obama near the end of his term and would deal a serious blow to his environmental legacy.”

Because as we’ve learned that Climate Change is just another China Hoax as California in particular and western United States in general are burning to the ground.

I mean what could go wrong by making the worst energy in the world more readily and cheaply available?

And then just as quickly… he reverses hisself!

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a decade-long ban on oil drilling off the coast of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina — a decision that surprised energy industry executives by reversing the administration’s earlier pledges to open those waters to exploration.

The move, announced at a campaign appearance in Jupiter, Fla., represents an election-year victory for drilling opponents in the crucial presidential swing state, where fear of oil slicks fouling the beaches has run high for decades among people in both political parties. But it comes despite vows by a series of Republican presidents — Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and now Trump — to open up more of the U.S. coast to drilling to foster American energy independence.

“In a few moments I will sign a presidential order extending the moratorium on offshore drilling on Florida’s Gulf Coast and expanding it to Florida’s Atlantic Coast as well as the coast of Georgia and South Carolina,” Trump said at the event. The current moratorium on drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico expires in 2022.

Sorry West Coast and Alaska: we suck, according to LDN, I guess.

CA is ready, whether the rest of the US is; they’ve passed laws prohibiting the infrastructure needed onshore to support offshore drilling. Which is a moot point, anyway, since unless the Feds are willing to subsidize and underwrite the drilling & extraction efforts, the IHOTFM has pretty much shot down ANY new exploration efforts, let alone drilling and pumping.
Just another symbolic gesture meant to appease both sides.

If Trump were to win the election I’m putting my quatloos on the Gulf and Atlantic moratorium being reversed within three months.

I’d kind of like to be a fly on the wall when Trump learns that the U.S. is signed on to the Arctic Council, including Canada, Finland, Iceland, Russia, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, but with only the north coast of Alaska involved, the U.S. is one of the smaller players

This one is simple, Trump doesn’t want an oil rig sitting offshore of Merde-a-Lago.

“That’s a nice tourism industry you’ve got going there for you. It would be a shame if anything should happen to it. Let me make you an offer you can’t refuse,” said one of LDN’s minions.
