Look Who’s Being Pardonned!

Tiger Beat morning email teases us:

THE PRESIDENT’S COUNTERPROGRAMMING — PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP seems intent on keeping the spotlight during the Democratic convention. WSJ’s CATHERINE LUCEY, yesterday’s pooler: “President Trump came back during the flight off the record. He said the following could be used on the record: He said he would issuing a pardon tomorrow of someone ‘very, very important’ but it would not be Michael Flynn or Edward Snowden.”

And oh, sweet Jeebus, I had visions of Paul Manafort grabbing his petting zoo couture and hi-tailing it to Minsk!

The AP reports:

President Trump announced he’ll pardon Susan B. Anthony, who was arrested for voting in 1872 in violation of laws permitting only men to vote.

New York Times:

“The pardon appeared to be an effort to distract from the Democratic National Convention and narrow the historically large gender gap that has him trailing Joe Biden in the White House race.”

You don’t say. Dude is always gonna see women as a means to an end. Tokenism at it’s finest.

UPDATE 1: This totally escaped me – and it makes the tokenism of his action even more grating.

“Trump announced the pardon at a White House event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment.”

“When you accept a pardon you have to admit guilt. I’m doubtful Susan B. Anthony would have accepted the pardon on those terms.”

Thank Dawg she cannot accept Suckface’s pardon, which only emphasizes that he confirms she was guilty. Just another woman to be used by him, for his own purposes.

SRSLY? It’s not satire, or snark, or sarcasm? That was my first impression, that someone at the AP has a delightful sense of humor, and was prognosticating.
Who in the actual fuck is putting these ideas in his mind? Of course, it’s a symbolic gesture that’s just as meaningful as everything else he’s said, and done, which, like I like to say, is about one bite shy of a Nothingburger.

And have you noticed all the clamor regarding tRump’s “opening up” of the ANWR, to oil exploration, and possible other mineral extractions? One thing that’s missing from the newziness is the fact that every single Big Oil Co has been literally hemorrhaging money at prodigious rates, and that Gov’t intervention will be required, to help them to merely continue to exist? There aren’t any funds in their budgets for taking advantage of this, since it’s one of THE most difficult areas of the world, not only in terms of oil extraction, but just to simply survive there is an almost insurmountable challenge. So there may be some “exploratory attempts” made, but nothing will come of it, especially with a Global Great Depression approaching.

And speaking of challenges, this action is being pursued in the Courts as we speak, by several large environmental groups active in the region, and much like almost every single one of his other harmful decrees, will likely be struck down, due to a lack of preparedness and adherence to strict guidelines for the EIRs, which were simply ignored.

“See you in Court!” is now, has been, and surely will be until Jan., the Battle Cry of the Opposition, while the tRumpers are heard to mutter, “I thought YOU were supposed to cover that…and what do you mean, it’s ‘too late to fix it?’ “

Thanks to this pardon, suburban housewives should be flocking to Lord Dampnut’s campaign.

Meanwhile, Eve’s been convicted for thousands of years. But not more than 6,000 years, since that’s the age of the Earth.

Anthony was presumably convicted by the state of New York, since the states run elections. So Stupid doesn’t even have the power to pardon her. But I’m sure the “suburban housewives” are suitably impressed, and grateful.

    Howdy y’all!
Those are some gaslighting huevos! That’s some first right double speak double message! First, he’s pissing and moaning about non-existent voter fraud and then pardoning a known voter fraud for committing voter fraud! He’s sending a message to his voters, man! He’s signaling that he’ll pardon them for committing voter fraud! Can’t you see it? It’s right there in front of your face!

    Huzzah!

a useless gesture is still a useless gesture no matter how well intended (that’s supposing ldn knows what a good intention is when it doesn’t pertain to him) but susan b is dead (rip). couldn’t he have found a living woman, especially one of color, now incarcerated unfairly to be the object of his generosity (again, does he know the meaning of the word if it doesn’t directly relate to him?). it would still be a ‘oooo, look shiny’ distraction from his multiple failures but at least it actually might have meant something to somebody. and then they could be used as an ‘oooo, look ratings’ distraction he could actually use as a photo-op during the convention.
