Why Comrade Stupid Wants To Ban TikTok

Axios morning email thingie:

President Trump said on Air Force One last night that he plans to ban Chinese video app TikTok as soon as today, via either executive order or emergency economic powers, Kia Kokalitcheva writes.

  • “As far as TikTok is concerned we’re banning them from the United States,” he told the press pool. “I have that authority.”

Why it matters: TikTok has been caught in the crossfire of escalating tensions between the U.S. and China.

Earlier yesterday, news broke that Microsoft is in talks to potentially acquire TikTok from its parent company, ByteDance. (A group of investors has also reportedly made a bid).

  • Trump made clear he was not in favor of a deal to let a U.S. company buy TikTok’s American operations, according to the pool report.

Tiger Beat:

Trump says he plans to ban TikTok in the U.S.

“TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, has come under fire from lawmakers and government officials on both sides of the aisle over fears that it could turn over American users’ information to the Chinese government. TikTok says it has not provided consumers’ personal information to Beijing and would not do so.

“The president said he could use emergency economic powers or an executive order to ban TikTok in the United States. ‘Well, I have that authority. I can do it with an executive order or that,’ Trump said, referring to emergency economic powers. Trump made clear he was not in favor of a deal to let a U.S. company buy TikTok’s American operations, following reports that Microsoft is in talks to do just that.”

I don’t understand the appeal of TikTok, but I am not their target market: the Yutes of Today are. And if anything is going to get them out to vote, even if it is something as silly as preserving TikTok, is fine with me. Prznint Stupid may have kicked the wasp nest.

It seems to me that in the absence of any evidence that this TikTok is being used for nefarious purposes, he doesn’t have the authority. Either way, it’s a stupid move.

LDN may still be a little sensitive from the whole Tulas [sic] debacle where Parscale may have been played by “the TikTok”.

She isn’t the only one. There are others mocking certain morons on Tik Tok. Sarah is currently the most promoted, though.

Remember when Hillary said it wouldn’t be a good idea to elect someone who can be triggered by a tweet? Good times.

Remember when Obama was on that “Celebrities read Mean Tweets about them” thing and he paused for a mean tweet, read it again, and then smiled and said “That’s pretty good!”
The joke was “How do you get Obama’s eyes to light up? Ans: shine a flashlight in his ear.”

I wish I could have been in the room when they explained that she was mocking him. Then see the penny drop when explained to him what it meant to be mocked.

It’s so smart to trash a youth-oriented app when there could be a buttload of youth votes out there. If these young people were engaged in current events enough to throw a monkeywrench into the Tulsa event, imagine what those old enough to vote can do.
