A Stealth Goat Enters the 2020 Rodeo!

Many obstacles for Kanye’s late declaration.

I think Kanye is pulling a prank. He’s not registered with the FEC, nor has he made a campaign committee, and lots’a luck getting enough petitions signed during a pandemic and on short notice to get on ballots of many of the states (but some are already past the last qualifying dates).

Tiger Beat goes long:

Kim Kardashian West quote-tweeted her husband’s announcement with the American flag. Tesla CEO Elon Musk quickly piped in, replying, “You have my full support!” Musk had previously supported former Democratic candidate Andrew Yang.

Many on social media have dismissed the announcement as a publicity stunt, though others questioned: How did West go from being a vocal ally of President Donald Trump to announcing a run against him? Is this an attempt to draw some Black voters and young voters away from presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden?

A Kanye presidential run has been teased for years. But the musician made an Oval Office appearance in 2018 while wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, stirring backlash from many fans and peers in the entertainment industry. He and Kardashian West have worked with Trump on several occasions, including on the release of prisoners.

As of early Sunday morning, the 43-year-old musician’s announcement had more than 416,000 retweets or quote tweets and 830,000 likes on Twitter. Different versions of “Kanye” were trending on Twitter, along with “First Lady,” “Elon Musk,” and “Kardashians.”

Axios morning email thingie goes short:

Rapper Kanye West is loving the frenzy he touched off during fireworks:

  • He’s retweeting every story about him running for president, from the Philippine Star to Reuters.
  • Reality check: Kanye announced last year that he’d run in 2024. The hurdles to getting on enough ballots for Nov. 3 (121 days) are beyond formidable, and the date is late. (Shhh! Don’t tell Twitter!)

Don’t get me wrong, after Lord Damp Nut’s improbably celebrity entry into the 2016 Goat Rodeo, anything is possible. This just is improbable.

  5. w3ski4me says:

The story I heard is that he wants to be a vote spoiler, so his “man”(?) tRump wins.
He said he wants to siphon off the young Black and Hip vote from Biden so Donny can more easily win.
And here I thought he was just another wanna be a famous jerk. He’s Ralph Nader in disguise!
