‘Oops’ Said Faceberg

“oops,” said Internet power-user Mark Faceberg.

The MIT newsletter thingie has a round-up of Facebook news:

Facebook’s ad boycott won’t hurt it that much
Most of its advertisers are tiny companies, not big name brands. (The Economist)
+ Its biggest spenders are staying put so far. (CNN)
+ Facebook shared user data for longer than promised. (Bloomberg)
+ What it’s like to report on Facebook. (Columbia Journalism Review)

But I think that Buzzfeed has the real scoop:

Facebook Has Been Profiting From Boogaloo Ads Promoting Civil War And Unrest

Facebook said on Tuesday it was banning content associated with the “Boogaloo” extremist group. BuzzFeed News found the company has been running Boogaloo ads advocating for violence for months.

I will also note that the Boogaloo Bois were seen here in Seattle during the CHOP thingie, and the extreme violence that’s been making national news is almost certainly from people going hunting for hippies.

Anyway, the point is that Facebook is a media platform and needs to be regulated as such. Facebook is not a good corporate citizen.

  2. Well, Boogaloo Bois, or SPD posing as BB’s. They’ve been howling about CHOP like it was freaking Fort Apache, The Bronx…

Along that line, just yesterday one of my daily reads on F/B was corrupted by nazis. It was a closed group and just the day before they were banning the buggers. All of a sudden it’s infested with “Peppe” memes and bashing Democrats, and posting some real trash stuff.
I can’t reach the moderators and they have even inserted their names as monitors.
How could they overrun a closed group, and where did all those vermin come from? How did they know to gather on this one subverted site?
I tried to get F/B to take a look at the Peppe stuff, but they don’t care. Thanks for nothing Faceberg.
How deep are these “people”? More like of group of Jr. Highschoolers gone rabid.

Brace for Shock Of The Day!

“My guess is that all these advertisers will be back on the platform soon enough” the Facebook chief executive has said. Campaigners accuse the tech firm of being too slow and reluctant to remove some hateful content. But Zuckerberg added: “We’re not going to change our policies or approach on anything because of a threat to a small percent of our revenue.”

I quit FB back in February and I haven’t missed it one bit. I had no idea what a HUGE time suckhole it was. Looking back, I can’t believe how much time I wasted scrolling through that useless feed of bullshit. I have been trying to get my friends and family to see what a terrible entity FB really is. I wish I had the words to make people understand just how bad FB is for EVERYONE involved. It’s easy to use, and easy to get addicted to the constant update- but damn- for every minute you spend looking at that shit on your phone- it’s another minute of your limited life you will never get back.

Becky has the right idea. We need to rise up and go all Species 8472 on the Faceborg.

I’m glad I never signed up for assimilation.
