News That Will Drive You To Drink

Happy Hour News Briefs

Hold onto your hats, this is big:

A Russian military unit secretly sought to offer rewards to Taliban-linked militants to incentivize them to hunt and kill coalition forces in Afghanistan as the Trump administration engaged in peace talks to end the nearly two-decade long war, U.S. intelligence officials have reportedly concluded.

The New York Times, citing officials briefed on the matter, reported Friday that the U.S. intelligence apparatus has known for months about the alleged efforts of the Russian military intelligence unit, which reportedly provided rewards to militants for successful attacks last year.

U.S. troops were among the targeted coalition forces, according to the Times, which reported that some militants or associated entities are believed to have received reward money.

While 20 Americans died last year in combat in Afghanistan, it is unclear how many — or which specific cases — are linked to the killing bounties, the newspaper reported.

President Trump and other intelligence officials on the National Security Council reportedly discussed the matter in a meeting in late March, where they weighed a series of potential responses. However, no formal steps have been made, the Times reported.

Not to be dramatic, but that’s actual treason.  Keep your eye on this story, this is a. big. eff’ing. deal.

So, basically, the Russians were doing the same thing to the US that the US did to them in the 70s and 80s, when the CIA armed the mujahideen. Christ, we really need to get over the nation’s addiction to war.

Maybe I shouldn’t make light of it, but……..”no formal steps have been made, the Times reported.” No more Cha-cha-cha? No Rumbas, no Sambas……shit, wrong cultural inference. And there wasn’t any fancy Saudi sword-dancing, but what it all comes down to is you can’t spell “shambles” without “sham.” All that fancy-dance politickin didn’t stop the deaths, din’t get a “Peace Treaty” signed, didn’t gain us doodley-squat.

Besides………..who ya gonna call, Ghostbusters? The whole entirety of the DoJ is totally under the control of a wanna-be who’s now a “becoming-to-be” tinpot dictator. There may be no stopping this shit, if it gains any more momentum.

“I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” Trump said during a joint news conference after he spent about two hours in a room alone with Putin, save for a pair of interpreters.

Who’s it more convenient for him to believe?

How pathetic it is that we have reached a point this low in our country’s history where a pandemic has decimated lives, oppression of an entire segment of our population has been challenged with more oppression, our economy flails, and all the while major treasonous deals have been made that would cost the lives of our soldiers and the news doesn’t even make the front page.

    Un-fucking-believable

Hillary absolutely nailed it during the campaign with her “Putin’s puppet” comment. The absence of a reaction by this administration is appalling, I do hope whatever compromising info Putin has on him comes out. And I do hope McConnell and the rest of the Senate GOP, minus Romney, are proud of themselves! Outrageous!
