Eric Boehlert at the excellent The Press Run makes an excellent point this morning: Why is our failed political press going to Tulsa to cover Lord Damp Nut’s 3-ring circus and burn-the-Reichstag Rally?
Told that Trump loyalists must “assume a personal risk” to attend his Tulsa, Oklahoma, rally on Saturday amidst a local spike in Covid-19 cases, the White House and Trump have conceded people may get sick from the event. That likely includes journalists who will be herded into the city’s 20,000-seat indoor sports arena to cover Trump’s first rally in nearly four months. And that’s why they should stay home…
Nothing newsworthy happens at those things. We’ve long said just film the damn things, fact check ’em, and report anything later at the evening news. Just because a mango-hued shitgibbon stands on his hind legs and lies non-stop for an hour doesn’t make it news.
Why risk personal health to have journalists in Tulsa to hear Trump lie without pause as he always does at his rallies, relitigate the 2016 election, and pick petty fights with his rivals during incoherent asides. All while he receives nonstop free airtime for his partisan attacks.
I would also add to the succinct summary that Hair Füror always whips his Orcs into a frenzy and they then physically attack the reporters. And this year, you know, KNOW that means mask-less Possum Hollar will go spray the press pen with the Trump Virus, to own the libs.
A curfew was implemented for areas around the BOK Center ahead of President Trump’s scheduled campaign rally, Tulsa World reports.
From Mayor G.T. Bynum (R): “I have received information from the Tulsa Police Department and other law enforcement agencies that shows that individuals from organized groups who have been involved in destructive or violent behavior in other states are planning to travel to the City of Tulsa for purposes of causing unrest in and around the rally.”
Helpless to stop the event, [executive director of the health department in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bruce Dart] now fears the worst. “I am personally extremely concerned not only for what is going to happen this weekend, but what we’re going to have to deal with two weeks from now,” he told Vanity Fair. “I think we’re in the potential for a perfect storm of disease transmission that Tulsa County does not need.” Calling the risks “horrific,” he added, “This could be a Beyoncé concert and I’d still feel the same way.”
On Tuesday, former vice president Dick Cheney’s cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, went a step further, calling Trump’s plan for the rally “criminal endangerment” that was risking lives.
