Morning Joe: ‘Facebook is a danger to democracy’

Comrade Faceberg

There is an item in this morning’s MIT email thingie that asserts that Faceberg has announced that users of his platform will be able to opt-out of political ads.

Facebook is going to let US voters opt out of seeing political ads in their feed

The news: Facebook has announced that people will soon be able to opt out of seeing political adverts on its platform. It will start giving a small group of US users the ability to hide adverts from candidates or political action committees in their Facebook or Instagram feeds before expanding it to all US users and several other countries in the coming weeks. In an op-ed in USA Today, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said users will still be reminded to vote, and the company aims to help 4 million people register.

Are you seeing what I’m seeing? Facebook is trying to respond to one of the biggest criticisms it’s faced in recent years, including from the Biden presidential campaign—that it exempts political adverts from its fact-checking program, thus letting politicians lie without consequence on its platform. Letting users opt out doesn’t change that. Read the full story.

I have not found anything that confirms the MIT story that an opt-out is in the offering.

That said, Hell musta done froze-over! I’m agreeing with Morning Joe:

Hat tip: Crooks & Liars, who have a full write-up on it. Please go there.

  1. “A danger to Democracy”

As much as a certain morning newstalker on MSNBC who [checks notes] provided trump with months of free air time and media exposure oxygen to a certain political campaign…

No Joe, your buyers remorse doesn’t get you off the hook. We know it was always just business.

Willi Cicci : Sal… Tom… the boss says he’ll come in a separate car. He says for you two to go on ahead.
Tessio : Hell, he can’t do that; that screws up all my arrangements.
Willi Cicci : Well, that’s what he said.
Tom Hagen : I can’t go with you either, Tessio.
[just then, Michael’s bodyguards materialize around them, Tessio understands everything]
Tessio : [to Hagen] Tell Mike it was only business. I always liked him.
Tom Hagen : He understands that.
Willi Cicci : [removing Tessio’s gun] Excuse me, Sally.
Tessio : Can you get me off the hook, Tom? For old times’ sake?
Tom Hagen : [shakes his head] Can’t do it, Sally.

I had to look into that federal officer mowed down comment…
So a couple of federal officers were killed in CA during a protest and their deaths were blamed on BLM protesters, at least that’s what I remember reading last week. And now it turns out that members of an extremist right wing group gunned the two down. Will we find that they planned on blaming it on peaceful protesters? (I think I saw that hinted at somewhere else) Have they been on the news with this one? Will the NYT remember to mention it, ever? Is that that right wing group who are working on ruining Hawaiian shirts for everyone?
And, now always my go to news thought, has Press Run done a write up on this?

MD – that was in Santa Cruz, CA, and only about 100 mi So from where I live. He was a RWNJ, the leader of a so-called “Militia,” and he set up an ambush which killed 2 deputies, and wounded a few others before he was arrested. And that was part of the Plan, to somehow shift the blame to BLMers and ANTIFA.

That plan is working all to well until it is Fox news that a right winger white supremicist thought it was a good idea to kill cops in order to have something juicy to blame on peaceful protestors.
[googles boogaloo] Well, whaddaya know. Looks like a subsidiary, Fox news 5, San Diego, actually reported it. It’s a start.

Authorities think he’s also responsible for another ambush-like attack 2 days prior, and I think it was a CHP.

      • MDavis says:

So he’s a serial murderer, now.
Looks like this boogaloo won’t be received even as well as the first one.
