Trump-Virus News: We Are Not Done With First Wave

(Hat tip: Secret Scissorhead @NamelessCynic)

Mea Culpa: yesterday I said that the US deaths from the Trump Virus had already surpassed the number of American who died in WW1; that actually will happen today. So in a matter of months, Prznint Stupid’s mishandling of the pandemic is already a greater body count than a world war, and it shows no sign of retreating, and Dr. Fauci says we have at least another year of the pandemic ahead of us.

Politico’s morning email thingie leads with:

AROUND AMERICA, we’re seeing cities struggle as quarantine fatigue sets in. The Washington Post carries a headline this morning noting that with the nice weather here this weekend, people forgot about masks and social distancing. New York Gov. ANDREW CUOMO threatened restaurants in Manhattan and the Hamptons to comply with distancing rules to avoid a second wave, or the state could face another lockdown. HOUSTON is struggling with an increase in infections. ALABAMA reported record cases for the fourth day in a row.

SOUTH CAROLINA “recorded nearly 800 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, setting another single-day record and raising the state’s seven-day average for the 17th day straight,” the Post and Courier wrote. NORTH CAROLINA recorded a record increase in cases Friday, and the second-highest increase Sunday, according to the Charlotte Observer.

IN WASHINGTON STATE, “coronavirus infections are on the rise,” the Seattle Times reported, and Gov. JAY INSLEE said “cases and deaths will soon increase substantially if COVID-19 continues to spread at the current levels,” according to the paper.

FLORIDA recorded its “second-largest single day total” in positive tests at 2,016, the Miami Herald reported.

THE NUMBERS: More than 2 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the U.S., and more than 115,000 Americans have died from the disease. Nearly 800 Americans are still dying each day.

I know we say this often enough, but please continue to take all the precautions: frequent hand-washing, social distancing, social isolation (if you can), and wear masks. We’re not in a second spike, we are still in the first round.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is ignoring the invisible enemy and currently residing in a completely fabricated reality behind a glass wall paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of the BLM movement. A definite sign of weakness.

I sent an email to Obama and begged him to make sure the next big hoax he launches to make Trump look bad not be so deadly as this hoax.

They can deny it all they choose but the virus doesn’t care about its publicity or about how anyone “feels” about it.
We are still losing a Thousand Americans a day to this plague and that has not changed.
Only Donny the Liar could try to say we have accomplished anything, beyond having our citizens die off.

    • I believe that his confidence comes from two sources: one He really, REALLY believes that this isn’t killing his base, and two he’s confident that GOP ratfucking the vote in November is going to ensure that his base is all he needs to win.

According to Worldometers you were correct the first time.
Worldometers is quicker to load than Johns Hopkins, which has consistently lower numbers and shows the same numbers as the CNN site.
I’ve been checking them all daily. Don’t want to get to cocky.

The numbers lie. Liars like to use figures, bc figures can be jiggered, and in this case, what they are showing us ought to be considered criminal. And it’s actually what they’re NOT showing us that’s the problem: the number of deaths so far can easily be doubled, since it’s speculated that only about half so far have been listed as “Official,” due to the number of overall deaths during this same period. Millions more have died than our Gov’t is willing to admit to us.

Which all comes down to testing, and it’s why tRump is refusing to produce more, or to supply them where they’re most needed, because the TRUE numbers would tell the TRUE story. In some places, Wave 1 is still happening, sometimes accompanied by Phase II, so that while the Curve was flattening, it now resembles a Mt. range. Some locales went from barely experiencing it as a first wave, due to their rurality (iz a werd,) to becoming inundated, because they became so lax about following the guidelines. Some are experiencing far worse circumstances due to reopening than they would have by waiting another 2 weeks or so, and even a lot of those States, not just certain cities, are remaining wide open.

It’s such a hodge-podge, a mish-mash, that what is required is a concerted Federal effort, to establish actual Rules and Protocols for each and every state to follow and abide by. And it’s going to require some severe restrictions on travel within our own borders, as well as internationally, to curtail the spread, which of course is going to produce howls of protest, about how our Right to travel about freely is being infringed upon. But for that to happen, we need a Leader, and not a bunker-boi.

And it should be a Federal law that each state’s Public Health Officer has the power to halt any activities that help promote the spread of illness during a Medical Emergency of this nature, and to control any other social discourses appropriately, and for such agents working at the County level to have similar abilities, and to be able to temporarily close that state’s borders for containment.

    • “And it should be a Federal law that each state’s Public Health Officer …”

I think that if we take the trifecta (House, Senate, WH), we’re going to spend a LOT of time passing laws that have to deal with all the shit this administration’s pulled that we didn’t think needed to be codified into law.

I hope so. But can we also address that these dudes have been totally ignoring the laws in place already. With the way this last impeachment went, I kind of see why Nancy didn’t want to get into it with Bush/Cheney. Not that I agree with that decision. She shoulda just took out a huge live insurance policy and proceeded on, in my opinion, for the better of the country. But that’s done and can’t be changed – can it?

Um, I would correct that to read, “… spend a LOT of time dilly-dallying and silly-shallying and NOT listening to their constituent’s demands, before (not) passing laws that have to deal with…”

We are going to have to descend en masse on not just DC, but also in Metro areas that rely on commerce, and having major roads and freeways, hiways and byways open and clear, and blockading them. I realize that delaying the transpo of goods will harm the poorest the most, but we must stand firm, and hit the 1%ers where they feel it the most, by threatening their Holey Economy.
