Mea Culpa: yesterday I said that the US deaths from the Trump Virus had already surpassed the number of American who died in WW1; that actually will happen today. So in a matter of months, Prznint Stupid’s mishandling of the pandemic is already a greater body count than a world war, and it shows no sign of retreating, and Dr. Fauci says we have at least another year of the pandemic ahead of us.
Politico’s morning email thingie leads with:
AROUND AMERICA, we’re seeing cities struggle as quarantine fatigue sets in. The Washington Post carries a headline this morning noting that with the nice weather here this weekend, people forgot about masks and social distancing. New York Gov. ANDREW CUOMO threatened restaurants in Manhattan and the Hamptons to comply with distancing rules to avoid a second wave, or the state could face another lockdown. HOUSTON is struggling with an increase in infections. ALABAMA reported record cases for the fourth day in a row.
SOUTH CAROLINA “recorded nearly 800 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, setting another single-day record and raising the state’s seven-day average for the 17th day straight,” the Post and Courier wrote. NORTH CAROLINA recorded a record increase in cases Friday, and the second-highest increase Sunday, according to the Charlotte Observer.
IN WASHINGTON STATE, “coronavirus infections are on the rise,” the Seattle Times reported, and Gov. JAY INSLEE said “cases and deaths will soon increase substantially if COVID-19 continues to spread at the current levels,” according to the paper.
FLORIDA recorded its “second-largest single day total” in positive tests at 2,016, the Miami Herald reported.
THE NUMBERS: More than 2 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the U.S., and more than 115,000 Americans have died from the disease. Nearly 800 Americans are still dying each day.
I know we say this often enough, but please continue to take all the precautions: frequent hand-washing, social distancing, social isolation (if you can), and wear masks. We’re not in a second spike, we are still in the first round.
