It’s Called Activism for a Reason

(The day has come. I’ve feared this day might arrive and did all I could to avoid it, but here we are. I’m sure there is a component of our community that is rolling their eyes ears, and joints right now wishing I would STFU, but TG never took the keys away from me after the DNC debacle.)

We have “apparent” Russian trolls populating our inter tubes with pretty obvious bull pucky. The MHSG is flinging it like it’s all he knows how to do. And now the astroturf wars have begun again. The latest, greatest, biggest and best version of the Koch boys are financing the effort to successfully motivate the “Salt of the Earth (You know, Morons)” to vote against their best interests, yet again.

My concern today is the move to undermine common sense, scientific procedure and rational thought by lifting the shelter in place orders too soon. As we all know without wide-spread and accurate testing, contact tracing and enforcement of effective measures to control the spread of the Coronaviris there will be widespread secondary and tertiary outbreaks everywhere. These outbreaks are likely to be more prevalent and virulent in the reddest of the red states, but even the liberal bastion I live in houses a frightening number of knuckle-walkers. So if the morons with microphones get their way no one will be safe.

I am unwilling to sit quietly by and let this happen. Both Sweetie and I are in at risk groups, and she’s in two with her chronic illness. I feel something has got to be done, and we’re the ones to do it.

Now, without further ado…

A Call to Action:batgirltobatphone_zps24956fc4

  • Call your Congressional Representatives and Senators, even if they’re as red-necked as lobster with a sunburn and tell them you support the shelter in place orders.
  • Remember the person answering the phone is a frightened intern, be nice.
  • Don’t waste your breath. Your congressperson or Senator will get nothing other than a number on a spreadsheet that you either support or object to the shelter in place order.

That’s it. That’s all you have to do. Just call them at 4:00AM and leave a message, call them as 3 PM and politely tell them you support the shelter in place orders for your health and the health of your families.

No one can do it for you.

(Now, I need to figure out where I put my anti-anxiety meds.)

TG adds: Because I don’t remember the last time we updated the contacts, here’s the switchboard numbers AND you can search for your own representative to call directly (instead of going through the switchboard).

Thank  you, O!

Edit: Ming and MDavis both point out that our efforts would be better spent by contacting our state officials, Governor, etc. than our federal representatives.

Go for it.

His “LIBERATE” tweets rank right up there as one of the worst things he has done. He’s Preznit of a Death Cult, not the United States.

I’m sure you’ll do fine with the car keys!

Don’t forget your governors and state-level congress critters. The feds have already indicated they’re going to continue to wank this and that the states are on there own. Governors and science-based health departments at the state and county level are the gate keepers and need to be supported.

Since Cheeto Benito has abdicated all responsibility for managing this crisis and leaving it up to the states, we should probably be calling our Governor’s office, representative(s) in the House of Delegates, and State Senators. Why not call ’em all?

Also/too: Steve at No More Mister Nice Blog helpfully pointed out that the Plague Rats at each of the oh-so-coincidentally timed armed astroturf uprisings ’round the country numbered in the 10s to 100s per “protest”, tops, yet the Nooz Media is behaving like this is some sort of massive insurrection representative of the Real Murican, heretofore-Silent Majority. A handful of morons outside a state building doesn’t necessarily warrant all of this attention. It’s a great example of how any “liberal” bias that may exist in the mainstream political press is FAR less important than its other, more toxic and exploitable biases…such as the Spectacle Bias, as we’re seeing here. While it’s nice that the mainstream press has found it in its heart rather early on to point out that these “patriots” are conservative special interest-funded, they’re still covering it. Any quatloos on how quickly they’ll walk it back and indulge the Both Sides Do It Bias, once they’re accused of having a liberal bias for not kissing Plague Rat ass?

There are two types of people in this world. The type who wants to be left alone and the type who won’t leave people alone.

PSA (Also 2): This is not normal. If we had a real President instead of a fake one we wouldn’t be going through this shit right now.
