The Daily Dot:
On Friday, White House advisor Stephen Moore received backlash for comparing protesters against their states’ social distancing measures to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
The comment came as protesters expressed frustration with stay-at-home orders meant to quell the spread of the new coronavirus. Several of the protesters—along with President Donald Trump and other Republicans—have pushed for mass reopenings.
“I call these people modern-day Rosa Parks,” Moore told the Washington Post of the protesters. “They are protesting against injustice and a loss of liberties.”
OK, that’s offensive just on the face of it, but when one considers that black (and brown) Americans are bearing the brunt of this pandemic, this dumbass comment becomes even more, um, dumb and assy (is too a word). Our allegedly classless-society and yet totally class-based economy requires people to go to work —and die— so sociopaths like Moore can continue “to earn” income on their investment portfolios.
Moore, as you might recall, is the economist that couldn’t get confirmed by THIS Republican Senate to join the Federal Reserve Board. Consider that.
