  2. [Sheriff] Chronister was asked at the news conference about social media rumors that the church had an arsenal of weapons, and whether officials were concerned. The sheriff said in addition to weapons, Howard-Browne “has a vast security force he has deployed.” Concern for safety, he said, was the reason the pastor wasn’t arrested at the crowded church service, and instead officials talked to his attorneys about Howard-Browne turning himself in.

Oh wait, nm.  It’s a church, so we’re okay.”

  3. roket says:

If one or more of his parishioners dies, will he be charged with murder?

    • Dennis Cole says:

roket – it’s somewhat like a “Manslaughter” charge, and it’s not that easy to prosecute. Called “Criminal Negligence Resulting In An Unnecessary Death.” Or thereabouts – it varies from state to state, as does the level of proof, and the penalties involved.

You have to prove the Defendant knew of an imminent action that would cause serious harm or death, and deliberately failed to warn anyone, or he just ignored it and took charge of only his own safety, or his family’s, excluding anyone else.

You can’t quite take it to the “Murder 1” level, unless it’s Hair Furor, and we go after him for a million or so deaths.
