Happy Birthday Jules Feiffer

By Source, Fair use, Link

The famous illustrator is 90 today. If you opened just about any publication of importance over the course of the last half of the last century up to today, you probably have seen his work. A multi-talented artist, he also has written screenplays and novels.

Seriously, he is a national treasure.

I think I first saw Feiffer’s work in The Phantom Tollbooth, which coincidentally is my favorite book from my childhood. If you want to get a kid interested in reading (but even more interested in word play), I think you cannot do much better than Tollbooth; and the illustrations are perfect in every sense.

I loved the Feiffer reference in ‘Bloom County’ as a kid.
