Politically, if you’re a Republican, can you vote for witnesses — and if witnesses fail, can you then vote to acquit? There are two schools of thinking on this: Yes: If you vote for witnesses, and they fail, you can vote to acquit because you can say, “I tried to get more information. The Senate said no, so I had to make a decision based on what we had.” No: How can you believe you need more information and then vote to acquit?
So, the safest route is to avoid it and not vote for witnesses.
In other words, if amply be-chinned #MoscowMitch’s cover-up succeeds, the fight won’t end so much as shift to the 2020 election.
