Sweet Jeebus, this happened in Texas:
A gunman killed two people during a Sunday morning service at a church in White Settlement before members of the congregation fatally shot him, authorities say.
Police in White Settlement, about eight miles west of Fort Worth, were called before 11 a.m. to the West Freeway Church of Christ at 1900 South Las Vegas Trail after two members who are part of the church’s security team opened fire on the gunman.
[Let’s clear this up right away: there is a town in Texas called White Settlement, and it indeed has a church called West Freeway. Ah, Texas. Let’s continue.]
“We lost two great men today, but it could have been a lot worse, and I am thankful our government has allowed us the opportunity to protect ourselves,” said Britt Farmer, the church’s senior minister.
This follows on the Hanukkah knife attack in New York. And of course so many Mosque attacks and Dylan Roof gunning down parishioners at a historic black church. I’m not the brightest light on the Christmas Tree, but I do notice a trend of religion-targeted attacks. And while Mr. Farmer might be thankful that the faithful were packing heat, I’m sickened that they had to.
The real story is easy access to guns=gun violence. If you read the article, it is pretty clear that the perp is unstable and homeless and yet he could still get a gun in Texas.
